Guest guest
Cat, if I left out the borax in the Vanishing Cream formula, should I put something in place of it, as it calls for 2 ounces? What about leaving out the alcohol? Same question. The recipes look great. Thanks, Leanna in Alberta. Guest guest
Hi Leanna: Not having made the recipe, I can't say for sure but I agree, it does sound like a lot of borax! I am sure it was included as an emulsifier. It can be diluted further to more of a lotion consistency with distilled water, but I hesitate to suggest a substitute in this case. The alcohol is there as an emulsifier as well as a preservative, but alcohol is very drying to the skin and there are more effective preservatives. Try reducing the amount, but not omitting it entirely. The cream will have a shortened shelf-life, but it can be made up in smaller quantities to reduce waste. I am not an expert on preservatives, perhaps someone else could help?
