Guest guest
Dear Kathy, It is always gratifying to hear about successes such as being PCRU, and on the other hand feel so much compassion for the situation you are in, when you are given yet another blow that your spouse has contracted a disease as dreadful as Alzheimer's. It came to mind when I read your post, of the old saying called a " double whammy " . This is not a sword anyone would want to lay down on, but bad stuff happens to good people all of the time, I'm just sorry that it happens to people I associate with. We have several people in our group who have secondary cancers and I see they are also standing as tall as you in facing their own crises. As evidenced from your post, you have shown yourself to be a survivor, also. The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society has now associated itself with the Lance Armstrong Foundation and uses his materials at their seminars. They have picked up his LiveStrong logo and the term he likes to use - " Survivorship " , a subject I was asked to speak about at our last seminar. I am a strong proponent of living as well as you can with what you have been given. I do believe that being positive helps you to live longer and stronger. I don't mean to be preaching to the choir, as I think you are already living the true meaning of surivorship and I would be the first in line to applaud and congratulate you for coping as well as you do, with this dual quandry. I am equally sorry to hear about your friend's husband who was diagnosed with lymphoma; perhaps they will find a trial for him, too. I think they are skirting the periphery of a cure, but for now we continue to hang in and remain hopeful. I noted that you are also a patient at MDACC. Only recently I posted a webcam link featuring Dr. O'Brien speaking about CML. Perhaps you had the opportunity to view it. I have seen several doctors there as a result of being in 4 several trials there and am presently seeing Dr. Kantajarian. My next visit will be on the 18th of this month. If you will be there at this time, perhaps we could meet in the coffee shop, or wherever it is convenient for you. I do wish for a positive outcome for the new trial drug your husband, Rudy is participating in. Blessings and hope, Lottie
