I think I've wasted too much time on this troll already, so will also

block all his aliases, to avoid further distraction.

Yea, but beliefs in and discussions about " karma " , " astrology " , and " deities "

have a certain " longevity " about them. <grin> Too bad these memes don't seem

to have a positive application to actual life extension.

Steve:

They have a very strong effect and it has been proven many times.

Attitude is at

least 80% of the equation when it comes to health. We know that more

people are cured

by the idea of a cure than the drug in every study. Modern medicine

spends all of its time

separating out this powerful effect. While I am not a Dr. Weil

fan, he noted once

on public TV that this is where the real study should be done (and it

makes sense).

Placebo is just about everything. Now sit down and meditate your way to

health.

Longevity is an interesting afterthought since time is illusion. All of

the smart guys taught

this thousands of years ago and we still seem to lose track of this

simple fact. It will be

over before you know it, so enjoy the moment.

Hi:

Although it is clear that attitude has a profound effect on the

outcome of any treatment, (or any other pursuit in life for that

matter) it would be difficult to substantiate that it is 80% or even

a fixed percentage, covering every case. Placebo can be as high as

30% in rare cases. Its measured effect varies from study to study but

never even comes close to 80%. I guarantee that if you just eat

Macs or Dunkin' Donuts, you will become unhealthy before long,

regardless of your attitude.

I concede. You caught me exaggerating again. I'll try & do better,

but you do get the picture.

Interesting story following your analogy:

I was on vacation last week and had breakfast at

a major chain restaurant. The guy at the adjacent table, very young

and obviously successful, had four kids, no wife, and was doing a

business

deal with another couple at his table. His kids were sitting at an adjacent

table and he was way too busy to focus on them. When it came time to

order,

he looked at each one and reasoned what they should have based on what

they always liked to eat. That is, ordering for the kids was in between

his main

concern and it sounded like he always did it this very same way.

..

He ordered a coke and two jelly donuts for his two year old (guessing ages)

and cokes and pancakes topped with some other junk for the older ones who

looked to be 4, 8 , & 13. He mentioned to the waitress that his daughter

was a teenager who did not have time for food. The kids were delighted!

It sounded like Bill Cosby's breakfast story with the chocolate cake,

but they did not make up a song about him.

I am sitting there wondering just how long these kids will live and what

major diseases

they will be struck with before they die and if any has a chance of

surviving past 50 given this wonderful start? Finally, I wondered if

he should be arrested for murdering his kids when they start coming down

with incurable diseases? Any thoughts?

Hi:

My first thought, as the continuing title of this email was

" Karma. " I'm quite agnostic when it comes to the Akashic Records,

but this early sugary, high carbohydrate diet is setting these

children up for diabetes, obesity, arthritis, heart disease,

Alzheimer's, low immunity leading to cancer (a disease of the immune

system) and many other maladies. You could call it Karmic

retribution, almost. Yet, I doubt that there is a silver bullet here.

Can we do something about it? I don't know. Well, if he gave his

kids alcohol or drugs, we could have the protective services take

them away and put them in foster care. He is doing something that,

depending on the extent of either and which drug, may be far worse

than what we can legally revoke the parent's custody for. Is that

the answer? I doubt it - foster care is quite hazardous too.

Just like the origin of the cosmos, there may be little you and I can

do as individuals about it. Nevertheless, I guess you could have

intervened and tried to lecture the dad. You could carry a stack of

pamphlets with you, describing the dangers of highly refined

carbohydrate diets and hand one to him discreetly so as not to

embarrass him. We can insist that the truth about dietary balance -

shown by real medical research - and NOT the ADC's evil pyramid, be

taught in middle and high schools as mandatory classes... We could

try to make restaurants serve more healthy meals. We could pass laws

putting warning labels on store foods and restaurant menu items

warning people of the health risks. There are a lot of politics and

parental rights issues here too. So, the answer is that these

solutions should all potentially be applied as much as feasible as

any such or similar solution will only partly work.

By the way recent evidence suggests that teenage acne (you mentioned

one of his kids was teenage) comes from not just hormones, but high

levels of blood sugar in combination with the high hormone

levels. Yet another disease caused by high levels of sugar in the blood.

I personally am not diabetic but I measure my blood sugar with a

blood glucose meter after nearly every meal when I can and adjust

accordingly. Keeping blood sugar low is one of the most powerful

tools to longevity and is likely the reason that the restricted-diet

method of anti-aging has gotten such excellent results. These meters

are available at any drug store. I wish I had known about some of

this stuff as a kid......

Time is an illusion, but all the physical activity that we use to mark

it is not; e.g. the advance towards decrepitude.
