Guest guest
Just read the last posting I like Tracey do not have my appointment with the Haem. Nurse but with the specialist himself. If I require his advise, feedback outside of scheduled appointment times - then I inform nurse of symptoms by phone - who then informs haem. who then either rings me himself or informs nurse that I need to see him or if minor a GP who then refers to him. However, haem follows up himself at all times. I also have a management plan from haem - if I need to go to hospital as an emergency or further advise out of hours, - who to contact at the hospital who will then contact the haem. This is on a haem. ward at the treating hospital I go to. So the nurse never gives advise - just is the liaison to the specialist. I had a BMA at diagnosis and since that time only bloods taken , and monitored which means at times that it is the haem. who decides if I need infusions; transfusions, other medication, including ointments, refers for other testing, to other specialists but never the nurse. It is the Haem who advised on his treatment plan from bloods etc. I am currently PCRU. Having stated that I am PCRU that does not mean that one does not have side effects of drugs and management of CML - The Haem. is the person who puts that into effect and will liaison with whomever needs to be advised. Eg. Had eye specialist check-up to make sure I did not have leuk. in the back of my eyes, very rare but still a check - had heart monitoring as a slight murmur picked up - A-OK.
