Hi everyone

This is probably going to be a fairly long post.Ellen's medication was changed at the end of the school year to Effexor xr.(She was taking Paxil and Welbutrin)She had an extremely stressful time and was coming home from school and going to sleep and sleeping all weekend. However, she would get up to go to movies or out to eat with friends. She started taking Effexor xr on June 8 ,after she was weaned off of the paxil .However, she was still sleeping and last week, her psychiatrist decided to up her effexor xr to 300mgs.twice a day and to add Ritalin(to boost her metabolism) and Remeron(7.5mgs.) to help her sleep at night(when she wakes up,at times she would be awake from 10 p.m. to 4a.m.)She slept almost all weekend, except to get up to eat,and then back she went to bed. Then, yesterday, she got up ,said she was hungry, and ate everything she could find.(this was not at one time-it was over a period of time-everytime she woke up,she ate something.)She ate 5 sandwiches (2 with big slices of meat,3 with chunks of cheese,4 pancakes with syrup,butterbeans-3 bowls,a big bowl of spaghetti,an apple, plums,a rice krispie treat, and she was so hungry, she baked brownies and ate about 6.She couldn't remember what else she had eaten.Well,I called her psychiatrist and he said to take her off of all her medication (to decrease the effexor xr every couple of days until she wasn't taking anymore)I can't decide if she is depressed or bored,if the medication is causing her to sleep the majority of the time,or just what is going on with her.She will not discuss anything about the medications, whether she can tell the difference when they are changed or how she feels on them. She says she doesn't know. She is helping with art camp for the next three weeks(it's a day camp) and she did get up and go,but when she came home at 4p.m. she went to bed and hasn't been back up.

When she was coming off of the paxil and welbutrin, she was having some obsessive thoughts, but she handled them on her own. She's afraid if she goes off of all the medications, her OCD will come back the "way it was" and she can't deal with that.

School will start here on August 10 and I'm not sure that we have the time to experiment with medications.

Have any of your children(other than 's daughter) discontinued medications and what have been the results?
