Hi Lottie and Barbara,

I d be happy to chat about practicing sports with CML, feel free to

forward my email, and as I still speak French after 8 years in the US,

it may come handy. I am not a professional athlete by any means, and I

am 42. I just like being out there diving, climbing or whatever.

Actually, I am feeling better and sharper now than I have been since

well before dx, my health started a roller coaster from the mid 90s.

It took a bit over a year of gleevec to start feeling stronger. I

never really stopped diving, but I have been diving for over 25 years

and I don't need lots of strength for that. I started getting back to

more physical training (climbing, swimming) a little over a year ago.

The only sport I am a bit wary to restart seriously is freediving as

breath holding for long periods of time mess up with the blood. I

climb at the gym about 10-12h per week, and I try to swim one hour at

lunch time 5 days a week. On week-ends I either dive or climb outdoors

(I am 4h from Yosemite), unless I have social commitments like a date

with a pretty girl :-) I haven't had any major problems, but I do not

compete.

I have to defend Paris :-). I lived there for most of my life and, if

it is not quite the California weather, it s not as bad as you make it

sound. It's an order of magnitude better than London, or New Hampshire

if you want something local. Don't take me wrong, I love being in the

states, I won't get back to France if I don't have to (just got

permanent residence this week after a 2 years battle), but if I have a

rainy day to wander around in a city, Paris would be on my short list.

You know, San Francisco in summer it's not so great, unless you really

love fog. And lot more bars in Paris ;-)

Marcos.

years...I deserve this nice weather-lol.  Maybe someone in Canada can connect

the hockey player( Blake?) to the guy in France.

Dear Barbara,

I am the last person to advise anyone on athetics, as I don't participate in

anything, but I found the letter interesting and international in scope, there

must be hundreds out there who will find a kinship between them. Our own Marcus

may be interested and willing to talk to the young athelete, as he is athletic

himself, although not in the same sport. Thanks for forwarding the letter from

your doctor, he will probably get several responses from it. You will always

find something interesting and different here.

I hope you and your family are thriving and all the children engaged in

something of interest to them in school. It is very cold here today, but nothing

like what is happening in the other parts of the country. So much for global

warming at this point in time. Here is a quote attributed to Mark Twain about

Paris....... ...... " anywhere is better than Paris. Paris the cold, Paris the

drizzly, Paris the rainy, Paris the damnable. More than a hundred years ago

somebody asked Quin, " Did you ever see such a winter in all your life before? "

" Yes, " said he, " Last summer. " I judge he spent his summer in Paris. Let us

change the proverb; Let us say all bad Americans go to Paris when they die. No,

let us not say it for this adds a new horror to Immortality. " - letter to

Lucius Fairchild, 28 April 1880, reprinted in Mark Twain, The Letter Writer

Also reminds me of the old saying they taught me in school, written by Mark

Twain, also:

" About the weather in New England: if you don't like it, wait a few minutes and

it will change. "

Anyone care to share their weather conditions?

Baby it's cold outside,

Lottie

Chi, think of us while you're basking in those rays. This morning we

woke up to -30 degrees and that's actually the Fahrenheit temperature!

Tracey-

I rescind my marriage proposal to come to Canada if/ when I get laid off  and

don't have insurance.  I got goosebumps just from reading your post.  Usually

the  minus says " feels like " but in this case it must feel like -60.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr.  I have to work tomorrow( trying to keep my job) so I just

stopped in to check on my staff.  I'm sending all you cold weather folks some of

our sunshine.

well I would have rock, paper , scissors you for her but now that I know know

how cold it there- I guess I'll have to prepare my will work for chemo sign and

stay here where it was ...over 80 degrees I think today. I've had enough of

snow angels to last me a lifetime but turkey brining sounds illegal.
