Guest guest
Good bet to get a flu shot. I hardly ever get sick now, although those skin " issues " can sure continue to bedevil you. My doctor never clued me into what to expect in the way of side effects -- I had to find out the hard way. Sheesh! Through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society website, I found two very knowledgeable nurses who lead support groups. I haven't been to the groups, but both were very helpful on the phone. But nothing has been as helpful as this online support group. I can thank these members for providing me with what knowledge and peace of mind I now enjoy! From: jclmal1998@... Guest guest
If you just starting gleevec (a few months or less) then it may get better. Neutropenia (not enough disease fighting white cells) is common in early remission and often gets better with time as the normal blood stem cells come back. Three years and 9 months after staring gleevec my blood counts are stable in the low normal and I don't get more infections than average, and nothing unusual. I cross fingers to sty that way a long time. I get a flu shot every year since 2005 and did't get the flu since. Cramps are another matter, I think pretty much everybody on gleevec have them, for me it's mainly hands, chest, abdomen. Drinking enough and exercising helps me. I don't take supplements, I just try to eat right, well most of the time :-). Marcos.
