Guest guest
The hepatitis vaccines are recommandeed for the persons travelling to high-risk areas. But if you have cml and take Gleevec, is it recommanded to take hepatitis vaccines? Are there some persons who took these vaccines while they take Gleevec? Hepatitis A vaccine - What you need to know http://www.immunize.org/vis/v-hepa.pdf Hepatitis B vaccine - What you need to know http://www.immunize.org/vis/hepb01.pdf Who should NOT get hepatitis vaccine? One of the reason is: " Anyone who is moderately or severely ill when a dose of vaccine is scheduled should probably wait until they recover before getting the vaccine " So, when a cml patient can get hepatitis vaccines? Do we need to be PCRU?
Guest guest
Hi Gilles, I believe the warning about avoiding the vaccines if you're " moderately or severely ill " refers to active illness such as a flu infection or other acute debilitating illness. As long as you're otherwise healthy (despite the CML) I don't see how there would be a problem but of course the best person to answer that question is your doctor. Having said that, there does appear to be a possible interaction with the vaccines and Gleevec as reported on www.drugs.com http://tinyurl.com/9mgbdp http://tinyurl.com/96fg7b The issue appears to be that with Gleevec therapy, we might have a reduced antibody response to the vaccines which could possibly render the vaccines less effective. It doesn't appear to be a safety issue but rather an issue of efficacy so you might not have the full protection that you would otherwise have if you weren't on Gleevec. If this is a great enough concern, they can check for an antibody response (a simple blood test) after you've completed the series of vaccines. This will tell you if you've developed enough antibodies or not. Guest guest
Hi Tracey, Thank you very much for this information. I will discuss with my doctor about the effectiveness of vaccines (flu, tetanos, hepatitis ...). Regards, Gilles The hepatitis vaccines are recommandeed for the persons travelling to high-risk areas.
