BMT survival rates compared to Gleevec survival rates

Hi Everyone,

It's not so much an issue these days as most doctors now realize that

the risks involved with transplants often outweigh their perceived

benefits therefore most doctors today will recommend Gleevec over a BMT

unless there's a clinical reason to pursue transplant (failure of

Gleevec and the newer drugs).

The bottom line is that after 5 years, the survival rate for Gleevec

patients was almost 95% while the survival rate for transplant patients

was 71%.
