Guest guest
Hi Everyone, It's not so much an issue these days as most doctors now realize that the risks involved with transplants often outweigh their perceived benefits therefore most doctors today will recommend Gleevec over a BMT unless there's a clinical reason to pursue transplant (failure of Gleevec and the newer drugs). Here's an abstract that deals with the issue: http://ash.confex.com/ash/2008/webprogram/Paper9503.html The bottom line is that after 5 years, the survival rate for Gleevec patients was almost 95% while the survival rate for transplant patients was 71%.
