Guest guest
New to the group. I cannot find a doctor who will prescribe ldn in the Northern Ohio area. I found a vet (who ironically was the person who told me about ldn) but I am having difficulty finding someone to prescribe it for humans. I thank you in advance. Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to the group too and very new to learning about ldn. My daughter who is about to go away to college this fall, decided to do some reseaching for me on alternative ways to treat my MS and she came across ldn about 2 weeks ago. So my husband and myself started doing the research ourselves. It sounds so incredable!!! I ask my neurologist about perscribing it for me and she out right refuses on the bases she knows nothing about it. Ok, then, since I live near UCSF and they recently did a study on ldn (has anybody found the results?) and all the doctors there prescribe, I asked her to send my records over to them so I can set up an appointment. This changed her tune and she reluctantly gave me a prescription for 3mg. I just sent my prescription into skip's (I heard they're a good compounding pharmacy), and now I'm waiting to receive and start!!! So I personally feel the medical establishment is jaded by the big pharmacuticals and they don't want to look into these alternatives. We must be persistant with our doctors and let them know what we want... Sheila > > New to the group. Guest guest
Hi Sheila Glad you got your perscription in the end. My husband sees a neuro at UCSF (we live in SF) and he has been perscribing LDN for over three years now so you can get it there - like you say you have to persist! We were there on Monday for a check up and he actually brought up the subject of the trial and said the outcome was positive in general but much too short. Baby steps I guess. Good luck with the LDN Bev > > > > New to the group. Guest guest
a, I really feel for you as I also had PMR with Giant Cell Arteritis. That was a year of miseries. I has to tell my PC what was wrong with me and he sent me to a Rheumatologist and it took me 3 trips with her insisting I had Fibro when none of the points she poked hurt. I just finally started treating myself with herbs, etc. Wish I had known about LDN then. Hold his feet to the fire for a script. With 50mg tabs you can mix one tab at a time and easily change dosage if need be. Good Luck Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Diet and CANCER Sheila, Good for you !!!! Any referrals for docs in Florida? Guest guest
a, Some people prefer to start at a low dose and gradually increase it. For instance, if you get caps in 1.5 mg dose you start there at 1.5 and up it to 3.0 (2* 1.5) mg over time, and then up to 4.5 mg by taking three caps. Ask at Skip's Pharmacy what he would recommend. http://www.skipspharmacy.com/ Jaco --- patandpaula <patandpaula@...> wrote: > I am going to my doctor next week and ask him for a > prescription. Guest guest
Cotton, thank you so much for your reply. As you can see, its 3:25 am here and of course I am in too much pain to sleep. Same thing happened to me, took me five doctors to get diagnosed, first one insisted I had fibro, I asked him point blank if I had fibro then why did I not feel discomfort at any pressure points (any pressure or massage feels good to me) Anyway, could you, would you please explain about the 50mg tablets? Do you put it in water to mix? I have tried finding how to mix but am really confused. And the LDN really helped you? Were you ever on Pred? And how did you get off? Anytime I try to get under a certain dose I have to go to bed and reup my dose. Sorry this is so long. Do you think you could email me off group with any advice? patandpaula@... Thank you again, I really need help and anything is appreciated. a Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Diet and CANCER Sheila, Good for you !!!! Any referrals for docs in Florida? Guest guest
Thank you Jaco. I looked up Naltrexone on my prescription providers website (caremark) and they only have powder and 50MG capsules listed so I am confused about what to ask my doctor for. Would you mind telling me about how much capsules at Skips cost? Because I am on a limited budget and need to figure out what would be cheapest for me. I have drug insurance with Caremark but it isnt very good. Thank you again a Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Diet and> CANCER> > > > Sheila,> Good for you !!!! > > Any referrals for docs in Florida? Guest guest
I'm not certain about Skip's prices. You could ask him directly. But if your insurance will pay, I would opt for the powder which you can mix with distilled water. For instance 50 mg of powder dissolved in 50 ml of distilled water would give you a way of dosing yourself at the rate of 1 mg per 1 ml. With a 1 ml syringe you can dose very accurately. I hope this helps, Jaco --- patandpaula <patandpaula@...> wrote: > Thank you Jaco. Guest guest
I believe they are the same. I think the HCL added is the true chemical name. Good luck getting an RX. Do you have a doc lined up to do that for you? Guest guest
No, Jaco, I dont. I have my rheumo doctor who is very nice but I dont know if he is going to go along with this. Im debating whether trying to talk to him on phone or wait until my next appt on 6/28. Wish I could get hold of a little of it sooner to try it, so may get up the nerve and call him. a Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Diet and> > > CANCER> > > > > > > > > > > > Sheila,> > > Good for you !!!! > > > > > > Any referrals for docs in Florida? Guest guest
You know a, You can buy from an off-shore pharmacy and try it first before asking for an RX if you want. Someone mentioned they had good results from http://www.alldaychemist.com/ I checked them out. They sell 10 tablets for 16.50 plus 14.99 shipping. That's 500 mg which could last a few months depending on the dose you're on. Jaco --- patandpaula <patandpaula@...> wrote: > No, Jaco, I dont. Guest guest
Many people with cancer become more diet conscious, choosing foods that contain anti-oxidents. Many of us take supplements, but there is no substitute for eating the foods that furnish these nutrients. I am posting a portion of an interesting article about diet and cancer, which may be of particular interest to some of you. The continuation of the article is posted below. The Antioxidant Defences Oxygen is essential to life. But, as oxygen is used in the body, some of the oxygen molecules become very unstable. These unstable oxygen molecules, called free radicals, can attack cell membranes and even damage the DNA (genetic code) in the nucleus of the cell. Damage to DNA is the beginning of cancer. Fortunately, the foods we eat can help protect our bodies. Antioxidants, including vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, selenium, and others, can neutralize the damaging effects of oxygen. These powerful, natural chemicals come to us in vegetables, fruits, grains, and beans (see table below). People who include fruits and vegetables in their daily diets have lower rates of many forms of cancer. http://www.cancerproject.org/diet_cancer/nutrition/antioxidant_defences.php If you have questions, you can ask the experts: http://www.cancerproject.org/ask/index.php I close with a quotation: Look to this day for it is life, For yesterday is already a dream, And tomorrow is only a vision, But today, well lived, makes every yesterday A dream of happiness and ever tomorrow,a vision of hope. -- Kalidasa (Kalidasa (AD ?450-600?) the greatest of the sanskrit dramatists, and the first great name in Sanskrit literature after Ashvaghoshha.) Blessings, Lottie
