It IS the bulk peanut butter sold to schools, nursing homes, and other institutions. sandy By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: January 15, 2009 A peanut butter maker issued a nationwide recall as two more deaths associated with a salmonella outbreak were reported, and the Kellogg Company later asked stores to stop selling the Austin and Keebler brands of peanut butter crackers. The manufacturer, the Peanut Corporation of America, based in Lynchburg, Va., issued the recall on Tuesday for 21 lots of peanut butter made since July 1 at its plant in Blakely, Ga., because of possible contamination. Kellogg, which obtained peanut paste for its crackers from the Peanut Corporation, said it had not found problems with its crackers. The outbreak has sickened more than 430 people in 43 states. Health officials in Minnesota and Idaho reported that one death in each state had been linked to the outbreak. Another death in Minnesota and two in Virginia were confirmed Tuesday. All five were adults who had salmonella when they died, though their causes of death have not been determined. (AP)
