What's up with > that??? > I'm not defending Mike, in fact have not been following what he has posted. But on another list, a poll showed that the vast majority of kids with autism who were tested, did have thyroid problems. My son, too...he looked hypothyroid but tested hyperthyroid, and had a " classic thyroid response " (endocrinologist's words) to thyroid meds. I am assuming it is because of heavy metals, perhaps in conjunction with something else. Lorilyn
Guest guest
, My thyroid was a little low and I was given thyroid medication. I changed doctors and the new doctor recomended that I stop the thyroid medicine and take a digestable form of alfalfa capsule along with my enzymes with each meal. Seems that you need minerals for your thyroid to function better and when our enzymes are low we are not processing enough nutrients into our system. You are on enzymes already, consider adding two alfalfa tablets with each meal at the same time you take your enzymes. He suggested I use Alfa-Max by Nature's Way, bottle says it is a concentrated digestible alfalfa extract. Seems alfalfa is hard to digest in itself. My thyroid problem was a minor one but now I have normal reading. I don't know how much this will help someone with a severe problem but I would think that it would only help to support the thyroid hormone in general. Hoping it would keep persons from needing a higher dose of the hormone. Liz D. > I'm low thyroid, too. Guest guest
Hi : Jenna, my daughter, has PANDAS. I thought she had ADHD, too, because she couldn't concentrate on anything. After we had her treated for a low thyroid, she improved tremendously. She also woke up one day and said, " Mom, I'm not tired. " Evidently she was always tired and just never noticed it. Her hair also was falling out and she had bumps on the back of her legs. My son (19) also suffered with hypothyroidism for years and was finally recently diagnosed and treated. (Nobody ever did a thyroid blood test on him before and it never occurred to me.) His energy levels and personality have improved a lot. They are both on armour thyroid at the present, but I have heard that you have to stay on top of this because sometimes meds need to be changed. Also, sometimes the test results are " borderline " and drs. are reluctant to do a trial of thyroid medicine no matter how much the symptoms match up. There is a lot of controversy currently about what " normal " levels of thyroid hormone are. I hope you get a good workup for your son. Guest guest
An interesting article relating to hypothyroidism, from one of Enig's sites- http://www.coconutdiet.com/thyroid_health.htm Thyroid Health and The Coconut DietTM Many Americans suffer from symptoms such as cold hands and feet, low body temperature, sensitivity to cold, a feeling of always being chilled, headaches, insomnia, dry skin, puffy eyes, hair loss, brittle nails, joint aches, constipation, mental dullness, fatigue, frequent infections, hoarse voice, ringing in the ears, dizziness, loss of libido, and weight gain, which is sometimes uncontrollable. Approximately 65 percent of the U. S. population is overweight; 30 percent is clinically obese. Research is pointing to the fact that an under active thyroid might be the number one cause of weight problems, especially among women, in the US today. Virgin Coconut Oil offers great hope for those suffering from hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) today. I didn't even realize how much hypothyroidism was affecting my life till I started on the Virgin Coconut Oil and suddenly had energy like the Energizer Bunny! I also gave up the white toxins (wheat flour, refined sugar, potatoes, and other high-glycemic index foods) and that, in combination with my Virgin Coconut Oil consumption has made a tremendous difference in my hormonal balance, mood stability, stamina and overall energy. And, I'm slowly but steadily losing a little bit of weight without effort. Ya gotta love that! (Coconut Diet Forums) I have had SEVERELY low thyroid for nearly two years now and nothing I tried corrected it. Being a naturalist, I did NOT want to end up taking Synthroid. When my daughter showed me your website, I was so excited to try the Coconut Oil. I took 3 tablespoons a day and within two months, I returned to my physician and she just couldn't believe that EVERYTHING on my tests was once again normal! She was so enthused that she has prescribed your product to three other thyroid patients since then. Your product took me out of the doom and gloom I suffered for so very long! My muscles have returned to normal... The mental fog, depression, hoarse voice, swollen face/eyes and all my other symptoms have disappeared! Thanks for saving my life, Tropical Traditions!!! Guest guest
I have had an underactive thyroid brought to normal using the Standard Process product, and confirmed by medical tests, MD was very surprised, he had wanted to put me on synthroid (BAD NEWS STUFF..) Why would one want to cause the thyroid to turn off (which I believe happens with synthroid) when one can give it a broad range thyroid support product such as Thyrotrophin PMG? Worked for me, and sure surprised the MD. But before switching to Thyrotrophin, make sure you talk to your doctor. Guest guest
"Anybody have any experience with this? Anything I can do if I suspect this?thanks christa" Hi Christa, Oatstraw tea is good for normalizing thyroid function. It also strenghtens immunity, regulate blood sugar, fights fatigue, anxiety, has also been used for those with MS. And it makes a very pleasant tasting tea. Also, Gotu Kola stimulates the pituitary gland and thyroid. What are your symptoms? Perhaps your adrenals need attention too? I make a tea for that. Not trying to sell you on it, but here are some helpful herbs for the glandular system: from my site~ dandelion root, licorice root, rose hips, wild yam root, astragalus, sarsparilla root, ginger, cinnamon, orange peel. Sip this tea to minimize mood swings and depression and to strengthen the entire glandular system, especially the adrenals. This nutritious tea also cleanses the liver, invigorates immune response, and helps strengthen the cardiovascular system. Guest guest
Christa, I would like to highly second what has said below. Before you assume it is your thyroid (low or High or potentially Auto-immune) have Thyroid blood-work done. Ask that they check both TSH and Free T-4. Once you are sure it is your thyroid there are many things you can do to either reverse or stall the process. (And yes i have been diagnosed with Hypo-Thyroid and no i dont take meds for it...ANYMORE ;o) ) #1 thing would be to review your diet and exercise regimine and then maybe do a cleanse. Guest guest
I dont either - but something i do to make sure my " natural " efforts to keep my Thyroid in balance are in check. I get a Nurse Practitioner to write my labs slip and then i go to the lab of my choice to get the work done. If you are not in a super small town, sometimes a lab will give a " cash " discount to patients who do not have insurance (like me). My Thyroid labs usually run around $30. i think? Welcome to our group. The main reason the thyroid becomes slow is because the adrenals are overstressed, which has many causes. When the adrenals are overstressed it cannot handle normal thyroid hormone output, so the thyroid automatically lowers its production. For more information about the adrenals and thyroid see these articles: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/menu4_7_1.php However, you may also have candida, since most candida sufferers have malfunctioning adrenals and thyroid. I suggest you take the Candida Questionnaire: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro3.php However, even if you do not have candida, this program will help you, since it has proven to be an overall healing program that improves anyone's health! There are only Four Reasons Health Fails: 1. Lack of proper nutrition and oxygen. 2. Accumulation of toxins, poisons, and waste. 3. Lowered vitality due to stress, shock, injury, emotional upsets, relationship or financial worries and concerns, etc. 4. Nutritional status inherited from your parents upon conception. Therefore health is only improved by: 1) Consuming " proper nutrients " (diet plus supplements), 2) Eliminating toxins and foods that feed candida (they also feed bacteria and cancer), 3) Eliminating damaging foods, and 4) Eliminating toxins in general. Please ensure you read two important articles: 1) How to Successfully Overcome Candida http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro2.php 2) Curing Candida, How to Get Started http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro1.php For encouragement and inspiration see these wonderful Success Stories by members of this group: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/success/index.php The best in health, Bee
