Guest guest
Here's what e-groups sent me: RE: chat applet [#4505729] Hi, Thank you for contacting eGroups Customer Support. If you are having problems accessing our Chat feature, please try the following: 1. Make sure you are logged in as a registered eGroups user. If you see the words " Welcome [your email address] " at the top of the eGroups page, you are logged in. If you don't see this greeting, click the words " Sign In " , then enter your email address and password when prompted. 2. Make sure you are subscribed to the group whose Chat room you are trying to enter. You can find a list of all groups you are currently subscribed to at: mygroups If the group you are trying to access is not listed, you need to join the group before you use the Chat room for that group. You can join a group by visiting the group home page at eGroups, or by sending an email to [Group-name]-subscribeegroups (Replace [Group-name] with the name of the group) 3. Make sure you have Java and/or the JIT Compiler enabled in your browser. See your browser's help for details on accomplishing this, or upgrade your browser if it does not support Java. To use Chat you must have JavaScript enabled: ***To enable JavaScript in Netscape Communicator 4.X, Netscape Navigator 4.X, or Internet Explorer 4. If you have Netscape Communicator 4.X, Netscape Navigator 4.X, or Internet Explorer 4, use the following instructions to enable Javascript: Netscape Communicator 4.X and Netscape Navigator 4.X: From the edit menu, select Preferences, and then click on advanced. Make sure that the JavaScript box is checked, and click on OK. Internet Explorer 4.X: From the tools menu, select Internet Options, and then select the Security tab. Click the " Customer Level.... " button and scroll to scripting, Active Scripting. Click the enable radio button and click on OK. Once you have enabled JavaScript you should be able to access chat. If you receive the message again, your configuration is still not correct. Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer are preferred in order to access and use our chat area. 4. At this time, the Chat program is not compatible with Mac systems running the Internet Explorer browser, Netscape browsers are compatible. WebTV systems are not compatible with our chat feature. We hope to correct this in a future version of the Chat software. 5. You may experience problems loading the Chat program during a peak hour for your ISP. Occasionally, our Chat program will not start if the network connection takes too long. The solution is to connect through a different ISP or to connect to the Chat room at a later time. If you try all the remedies above and continue to experience problems with Chat, please send us the following information: - Your browser type and version number (Internet Explorer 3.0.1, Netscape Navigator 4.0, etc.) - Your operating system (Windows 95, Windows 98, etc.) - The time and date you were trying to chat eGroups Technical Support eGroups.com - Simplifying group communications Learn how to use many eGroups features at help/
