Shellie,

I think many of us have had the phenomenom of having our OCDer behave in

a more controlled manner outside the home, then lose it completely at home -

with lots of anger spewing at us, their parents! My daughter seemed to be

able to hold it together at school, friends, etc, only to come home, fall

apart and monopolize the entire family with her OCD storms.

Our therapist explained that it takes all her energy to keep it together

at school so that when she gets home she does not have the energy or focus to

control the OCD and/or her emotions. Since she felt " safe " at home, even

with her OCD issues, it was okay to let the demons out.

We found that as she got more expereinced at E & RP and was on the right

dosage of meds, the storms became shorter, less severe and less frequent. It

was kind of like morning sickness tho - itdidn't just all go away in a day or

two. Only when viewed in retrospect did we realize how much better things

had gotten.
