Guest guest
Hello. It has been along time since I have posted about our family. Our ocder J has had a rough school start. He got all caught up in a biology lesson and gave up claiming he " could not face it " . They were studying the brain (which I thought was GREAT!) but it brought up some old contamination issues about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain, and he just CRASHED. They were also studying sheep brains in the labs and he raised lambs for 4-H projects and we still have 5 sheep out in the pasture that have received pet status. It was all TOO MUCH. So he wasn't able to attend school. He was really sick for about 4 days, then got really depressed, and after missing 14 days of school he finally managed to go to 3 days of first period only. (which is computer info. tech) He tells the other kids that he is being home schooled. This is his sophomore year. He started out the year saying that he wanted to get 4pt. I am working with the school looking at home based instruction or other " nets " that might help him. The phycologist working with him now can't write any thing to the school because J has refused to sign a release. (he is 16) In order for him to be considered for any IEP or 504 the school district wants medical documentation. I turned to the Dr. that took a whole year to cough up an evaluation. He said that he would write a letter stating that J is OHI. When J was going to him he signed a release. We are now waiting for that letter. I started a new job this Sept. I am working for the school district here. I am working at the home school program running the computer lab. I am getting great benefits which will help our family with health care and some alternative treatments. (I have been going for massage, and J has asked about massage also, his muscles are so tight!)The new phycologist knows OCD treatment well and he is working with J just trying to get him to recognize how OCD has undermined his life. It is a SLOW road. Little changes sometimes are not enough and his Dad and I wonder if there is a residential facility that would remove this heavy burden from our family. But it is also not our wish to solve this mental health issue with the law as that is sometimes the only way to " force " someone to take medication. I am up late writing this " book " . I am thankful for this list and try to read the posts often. I treasure the connection we have and wish everyone well. Do you have to have OCD to not be able to handle that? I don't think I could! We have a couple of ducks and everyone used to joke about eating them for Christmas dinner until I put my foot down. Afterall, in some countries people eat dogs but no one makes jokes about eating the family dog! 8 ) Sounds like a long hard road, but you sound positive.
