Guest guest
Antibodies should be above 2.0 to be protective. I like the results better when there is a pre-vaccination level and then a post vaccination level. That way you can see if 1) there is enough protection (the 2.0 level) and 2) if the body can respond to the vaccination (an increase between pre and post levels). Monocytes being up could be inflammation from a chronic disease process or a recent illness. The IgE being low is good, at least you don't have all those pesky allergies to worry about. The doctors still aren't sure what IgG 4 does so no help there. Basically even if the other subclass levels were good and even if the overall IgG level was good then they're basically " blank " because there is no function (antibody results). The results are concerning (IMHO as a PID parent only). Good luck with the doctors appointments and let us know what they say. Guest guest
I'm sure you'll get lots of helpful advice! My wife Marilyn is bouncing in and out of pre-menopause, and deals with hot flashes. The people here on the list were fantastic with some very good advice. Of course, I am "only a man", so can't really give any practicle advice, but I can say I feel for you, and hope you get over this bump in the road soon. Peace, lvoe, laughter From: pearlmoon <pearlmoon@...>Subject: HELP!!!!!!!health Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 2:39 PM Hey, I have a problem with what I think must be hot flashes. Since I have never experienced them before I can't say for sure. I've never heard anyone discribe them and so don't know if that's what I'm feeling. All I do know is I sweat soooo much. I can be sitting and doing nothing at all and I'll break out in a huge sweat and even have to change to a tank top from my nice warm soft comfortable flannel shirt. At this moment I am sitting in front of an open window in 38 degree rainy weather and in a tank top just to get myself to stop sweating. I'm 48 years old and in the stop and start phase with my period so I'm pretty sure I must be in the pre menapause (sp) state so far. So are these hot flashes or what? Can some of the older women on the list who have been through this before help me out with this? What was it lilke for you? If these are hot flashes what can I do to stop this awful sweating. I hate the open window and that awful cold air. I love all my flannel and fleece shirts and blouses and warm comforters on my bed. I have always been a "bug in the rug" type person and now I have to wear tank tops in front of freezing air just to stay comfortable. Please help? I can't stand this anymore. If something is in the file section for this please tell me and I'll go make it. I can't go to my GYN because Medicare only covers a visit there once every two years. My two years isn't up until July I think. Can you see me by July? I'll melt into a complete puddle. I can't belive I'm sweating while just wearing a tank top and yoga pants. The episodes are getting more frequent too. I want them to go AWAY!!! Any help would be appreciated. Beannachtai Lynn
Guest guest
Well, HI!, Lynn. I have been having hot flashes since 1995 and they are very annoying, I know. In the past year or so I have been trying to find a gyn or gp or do who will do the blood/saliva tests, prescribe the BHRT and follow up with blood/saliva tests to get the "right' levels. Have not found anyone yet and actually posted on here a few days ago. I realize now that if it is done right BHRT should not markedly increase my chances of stroke/heart attack. I have tried many things over the years without success. I am hoping someone on here my suggest something I have not yet tried that will help - me and you. Guest guest
Oh, dear. Sure enough sounds like them to ME, and while I can recommend a few different things, I will tell you that nothing I've tried or heard of (yet) is a permanent fix. So welcome to womanhood!!! Okay, there's black cohosh. Standard herbal support for "womanly" issues, including menopause. My SIL got some relief (for a while) from eating roasted soybeans every day. For a couple years, I found sage tea (recipe to follow) to be exemplary in stopping them cold (pardon my French!) - right up until it quit working at all. And I sleep with a fan RIGHT next to my side of the bed. So do many women I know. Okay - sage tea: Take about a cup of dried sage leaves, and put them in a glass jar you can close tightly. I used an apothecary jar. Pour approximately 1 1/2 cups boiling water over the leaves, close it up, and let it steep for at least 4 hours (I used to let it sit all day). Strain through cheesecloth (or whatever you've got that will strain it), and drink up. It's a very strong sage flavor, so I can't recommend sipping it...and for heaven's sake, DON'T try to sweeten it! YUCK!! The herb book I got this from said not to take more than a couple times a week, as some chemical in the sage can contribute to irritability (like I needed any help with that!), however, I found the tea to be very effective for 6 to 8 weeks per cup. Sadly, I am looking at the instances increasing with the return of warm weather. } Last summer, standing at the kitchen sink and running hot water was just the WORST!! Sweat running from my forehead so hard it splashed on my glasses and looked like I'd hit them with the water! (Don't I just wish)! But my older sister was dead about 8 months after starting HRT, so there is no way on the planet I'll do that. I'd rather be uncomfortable and still here, you know? Guest guest
Thanks so much I got a Women's Formula from the files by Doctor ? I think. It has a mix of different tinctures and I'm going to get the herbs for that when I get my check at the end of the month. So two weeks after that I'll have what I need to give myself at least some help I hope. Until then I do have sage and I will be making up the tea from your recipe. I take it you just gulped the tea down right? Did it upset your stomach at all? I WILL NOT in any way ever do HRT. No way. I hear it's not that good for your body and the way they get it and make it up is not so good either. So none of that for me. Thanks so much again for your help. I'll wait to hear from you and I'll get started on that tea tonight. Like NOW!! ) Aahhhh..I just love getting old. ~ Beannachtai Lynn Re: HELP!!!!!!! Oh, dear. Guest guest
Thanks so much dear. My poor family consist of my partner Rich and our son . Both guys are putting up with me quite well. Not so much anything else but the sweats for now though. No irritability or moodiness or anything like that. Just these damn sweats and lots of showers. I'm going up to three a day now. Can't wait to pay my water bill. Sorry but I just can't stand the feeling of that sweaty feeling under my clothes. I have to actually peel them off when I get into the shower. Oh my goodness. I'm only 48. I bet I have another 12 or more years of this at least. No worries about being "only a man". You're being supportive about it at least. Rich and are too, pretty much, accept when I turn off the heaters and open the windows and make poor Rich freeze. lol I hate the feeling myself but I just have to stop the sweating somehow. Anyway, thanks so much again. Beannachtai Lynn HELP!!!!!!!health Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 2:39 PM Hey, I have a problem with what I think must be hot flashes. Guest guest
Hi Lynn Well like I said I copied a formula in the files section by Doc. and I'm going to make it when I get paid again. I'll let you know how that works. For right now, tonight, I'm making some sage as suggested by . I swear I'll do almost anything at this point. I just got out of the shower for the second time today. I'll have another shower again before I go to bed I'm sure. Hey at least now I "know" that this is what is happening to me. I wasn't sure since I've never felt them before and I heard it's sometimes different for different women. So I thought I'd ask here. No better place on Earth to ask anyway. I couldn't really ask my mom since she had a hysterectomy at age 32 which put her into instant menopause. Poor thing. Nothing to lead up to it...just BAM! How she ever lived through that and giving birth to 8 children I'll never know. Talk to you soon. Guest guest
Please don't throw things at me, but I have not had a period for at least 5 years and maybe longer. I never had a single hot flash. Nothing, not a mild temperature rise, no night sweats, nothing, nada, zilch. And I think, my theory only, it is because I do not and have not eaten meat for many years. I have eaten dairy (no longer) and I have eaten eggs (again, they are gone) in the last five years, so I think it's because of the lack of animal protein. Doubt there are any studies about this, but that's just what my head tells me. I wasn't getting any animal hormones so my hormones behaved. My mother suffered terribly with hot flashes for what seemed like ten years, but I cannot be sure. Back in the old days (60's) we didn't talk about things like that in my house. I do eat protine but almost no meat anymore except for a small amount of chicken, tuna or turkey now and then. Only some dairy but not a lot anymore. I have changed my whole diet and am feeling so much better and have lost some weight too. So it's all good as far as that goes. You could have a good point there for the reason you're taking it so well. I really hope it stays that way for you. Beannachtai Lynn Re: HELP!!!!!!! Guest guest
Although my mother is a vegetarian now, she was not at the time of her menopause and she never suffered a single hot flash, or any other symptom. My aunt, her sister, on the contrary, suffered all the symptoms that you can dare to imagine. So I guess it has to be another reason for not having symptoms. Rena Re: HELP!!!!!!! From: pearlmoon <pearlmoon@...>Subject: HELP!!!!!!!health Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 3:39 PM Hey, I have a problem with what I think must be hot flashes. Guest guest
Thanks so much ~~~~~ Well, it's a pity I don't have a magic wand to wave, isn't it?! I take it you just gulped the tea down right? Did it upset your stomach at all? ~~~~~ Yes, I did, and no, it didn't. (Although my first-ever cup, to which I had added honey - heaven help me - came close). !! I WILL NOT in any way ever do HRT. No way. I hear it's not that good for your body and the way they get it and make it up is not so good either. So none of that for me. ~~~~~~~ I hear you! Besides, what did women do before labs came up with HRT, anyway? Well, there you go. They did, we can. Thanks so much again for your help. I'll wait to hear from you and I'll get started on that tea tonight. Like NOW!! ) Aahhhh..I just love getting old. ~ Beannachtai Lynn ~~~~~~ Well, I, for one, will be hunting up some Motherwort. Seems I'd heard of it before, now that I've pondered the name for a time, and had completely forgotten it. ... ? But do try the tea - I found it amazing efficacious - for a couple years, anyway. Bette once said, "Getting old ain't for sissies!" I adore understatement, don't you?! Say, would you mind terribly "pronouncing" beannachtai for me? I started to take up Irish, but it got set aside after hitting a bit of a road bump, but I'd be interested to see if I got it right. Thanks! And enjoy the tea, insofar as you can... Guest guest
No way to know for sure, is there? The family story (and I cannot check it because both my mother and her mother are long gone) is that one month my grandmother had a period, and then >poof< they stopped, and that was the end of that. My mother's health was so colossally messed up, there is no way to tell what her menopause was like. Beyond that, I might take the liberty of arguing the meat thing; a friend of mine, only a few months older than I am, swears she doesn't have any issues with sweats or flashes, and her diet is hardly a thing I would try to recreate. ly, I think it's much like pregnancy - as individual as the women experiencing it. <shrug> But what do *I* know?! ;-) Ev Please don't throw things at me, but I have not had a period for at least 5 years and maybe longer. Guest guest
Thanks for the answers. I will have to remember that Bette quote. Oh my goodness was she ever right. So.....you tried to learn Irish did you? There are many "bumps in the road" of that language I can tell you. Just as many as Welsh and Manx, Cornish, Breton and ish. At least for a person who is only used to speaking English and latin type languages anyway. To speak any of the Celtic languages is a whole different way of using and moving the inside of your mouth. Beannacht = Blessing (singular) Ben - acht Beannachtai = Blessings (plural) Ben - ach - tee (roughly) or Ben - ach - tae The "ach" sound is made by using the back of your tounge pressed lightly against the soft palet of the back of the roof of your mouth to make a rather gutterel type sound. Like when a person is bringing up some spit but just not as strong as that. Also you can add the Irish word "Mhor" AFTER Beannachtai, to say "Many Blessings". Mhor is pronounced just like the English word "more". With Ben - acht, the "acht" sound is made exactly the same way but just a very soft "t" to the ending of the word and you have the singular form, "Blessing" Also, if you really like bumps in the road, try learning Welsh and/or ish too. You'll love it. I know I did. (wink) I did tend to spit a lot in the process of learning the Celtic languages. I'm pretty good at keeping that part from happening now though, especially when speaking to the natives. lol Well I hope this little language lesson helped and that you had gotten it right. If you want to know how to say anything else just email me and I'll shoot off an email pronunciation lesson for you. ) There are a lot of simple sayings like "Hello", "Thank You", Good-By", "You're very beautiful", "I Love You", "A Hundres thousand Welcoms", or just "Welcome" , "Safe Journies", all kinds of common greetings and good-bys and good wishes for the ones you care for and love. Anyone on this list is welcome to email me and ask how to say things like that. I help teach the Irish language here in Buffalo, at our Irish Center and online. I'm more than happy to help anyone on this group. You all have been so wonderful to me over the years that it's the least I could do for any one of you, gladly and with no trouble at all. Guest guest
Hey Lynn, sounds like peri-menopause. Get your self a spray bottle with a misting setting and a little fan. Whenever you feel one of these sweat-festivals coming on, give your face a little mist of water and point the fan towards you. It is instant air conditioning with no need to expose your whole body to the elements. The other thing you need to start doing is wearing layers. Wear your tanks under your warmer flannels, that way you can just take the outer layer off if you need to. There are some herbal combinations that help ease these symptoms. Mountain Rose Herbals is a good company that I use. They have a capsule combination called Meno-Care that worked for me. Or you could make one of the recipes in the files for hormonal balance. It took me about a year after my hysterectomy to get the symptoms under control. Try to think of the bright side of the situation, like the fact you won’t have to buy tampons or pads any more J Janet From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of pearlmoon Sent: Tuesday, March 10, 2009 1:40 PM health Subject: HELP!!!!!!! Can some of the older women on the list who have been through this before help me out with this? What was it lilke for you? If these are hot flashes what can I do to stop this awful sweating. I hate the open window and that awful cold air. I love all my flannel and fleece shirts and blouses and warm comforters on my bed. I have always been a " bug in the rug " type person and now I have to wear tank tops in front of freezing air just to stay comfortable.
Guest guest
LOL Shari I am happy for you. Many women never notice any symptoms at all. It’s like childbirth, some just grunt once and out pops and baby, and some labor for 3 days and barely survive the ordeal. Good for you that you have eased into the post menopausal years. Guest guest
Ah yeah, that was me too. 38 minutes from water break to birth with my first one. Second one was 2 hours and literally she fell out into the midwife's hands. S
