Guest guest
Having observed the primitive wilderness skills community for more than 16 years while teaching at a class this weekend I noticed something that may be of interest to those in this group. Of the 6 students, none of which were out of their twenties yet, 3 of them brought herbal tinctures (one brought a bottle of homemade mugwort beer) they had made to share with people and a 4th was great at combining different blends of herbs to make delicious teas. This is far different from 10 even 5 years ago when the word tincture was met with a blank look. I remarked about this to a visiting Cherokee elder and he smiled and said, " Yep, 20 years ago if you knew anything at all it was a big mystical secret, now the information is out there. " We shared our carry kits and while there were " What do you carry that for? " questions from each of us they weren't coming from a place of ignorance about plant medicines, it was more of an excited sharing of pet approaches. The girl that was getting the sniffles from some sickness already knew what fire cider was and was happy that we had some there she could draw upon for herbal support. Probably statistically one class isn't much of an indicator compared to mainstream society, even so I have never seen such a high percentage of already practicing herbal hobbyists together in a nonplant skills course. I think this shows how earth medicines know how is spreading in the archetypical grassroot fashion. Internet info like the stuff you all share so freely here is making a difference to people out there. So everyone keep up the good work (or is it play, we discussed it at the class do we have a word that combines the words work and play? We made one up for this, plorking) gathering our own experiences and sharing it with others. It makes a difference.
