Guest guest
Deborah, Briefly, Exposure and Response Prevention: In the most simplistic terms, this technique involves slowly 'exposing' the person with ocd to the things that would usually cause them to have obsessive thoughts with fear and anxiety. The 'response prevention' part is the client learning to resist the compulsion which would usually follow the exposure. For example, someone who needs to wash their hands after touching a book would touch a book, but resist the urge to wash. Though this is very hard in the beginning, over time it does get easier. Once the anxiety has lowered enough for the client to touch the book, and not feel like washing, they are ready to move on to something else! I suggest that you look into some of the articles on the on these sites. Both have sooooo much information!!
