Hi Donna,

I shall also be interested in your quest for a high quality Gardenia FO

I have bought Gardenia Absolute that is from Tahiti. I have done nothing

with it yet because it is so dear and I do not want to waste it. I also

bought a Gardenia that is supposed to be pure and yet upon further

investigation seems to be reconstructed or bouqueted (sp) from other eo's

Anyway I am on the quest also. There are many different gardenia FO's out

there. Many do not even smell like Gardenia.

I bought a decent sample from Wellington and am adding other aromas to give

it additional

Gardenianess: e.g., apple, roman chamomile, lime, clary sage, neroli, musk,

chocolate, jasmine, lily of the valley, orris, a lemon basil accord that is

very complex along with other green floral notes. I am blending for special

candles. Their gardenia is lighter which I like because I am trying to

create the ethereal fragrance of the fresh gardenia with the flower still

opening.

Let me know what you discover also!

Thanks,

Dorothy

Subject: tahitian gardenia

Hi Everyone,

I just joined this group and am happy to see some familiar names here

and lots of new ones. I've been " doing aromatherapy " for about 6-7

years and experimenting with creating creams, lotions, salves and

perfumes for the last 3-4 years.

Anyway, I smelled the loveliest flowers in Hawaii especially plumeria

and tahitian gardenia. I have not experimented with any fragrance

oils and wondered if anyone here had encountered a gardenia F.O that

they really liked. The solvent extracted gardenia is extremely

expensive so I thought perhap an F.O. would be fun to play with. If

you know a vendor that supplies nice quality F.O.'s that would be

helpful also. I'm clueless about fragrance oils.

Thanks in advance,

Donna

Hi Donna,

The best gardenia duplicate I've smelled was from SweetCakes. It's a

workhorse of a floral without a bunch of distracting bells and

whistles that lead to odd drydowns more often than not. It even

soaps well ;)

sara

Hi Donna:

Madini, the perfumers from Morocco have a great gardenia that I believe is

a combo of infused gardenia oil and perhaps some FO (although I'm sure they

won't admit it.) It is very expensive, but a little goes a long way. I

think they're at madini.com or talisman.com.

I believe if you look around, you can find infused Tahitian gardenia oil.

It is called Tiare. I have the plants growing around my house, and I infuse

it, and many perfumers who produce " South Pacific " perfumes have it, like

Comptoir Sud Pacifique (they make a perfume, they don't supply the oil, but

I'm just using them as a reference.)

Tahitian gardenia is different from the gardenia we know here in the

states, as you know. There are probably some Hawaiian producers. let me

look in my bookmarks for a second, there is a company that makes a great

infused white ginger oil, perhps they have tiare.

http://www.mauirain.com/

Hmm, by some of the scents here, some look to be FOs. I can vouch for the

white ginger -- it's amazing and true.

as for tiare, i did a google:

http://shop.store./islandtrend/monoioil8floz.html

hmm, not sure -- probably pretty dilute

here's the lead page for tiare essential oil

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en & lr= & ie=UTF-8 & oe=UTF-8 & q=tiare+essential+oil

Can't vouch for any of these. Just sniff around, ask for samples

I'm out to the garden before it gets too late to pull some scarlet/pink

fragipani flowers off the tree to put into the alcohol. I've been doing

this for months, the alcohol is a lovely red color, but not much scent so

far. :-(

Hi Dorothy:

What/who is Wellington? For the blend of 'gardenianess', when you mention

musk, chocolate and lily of the valley, I'm taking it that they are FOs?

ARe you trying to duplicate the scent of just-opening G. jasminoides, or G.

tahitientis that we were discussing? I got lost in all the emails, and I

can't sniff my way out :-0

LOL, someone in the group wrote me privately that libertynaturals.com has

G.tahitientsis under 'enfleurage oils'. They didn't want to post it, since

their buddies in aromatherapy make fun of Liberty (actually, diss the

company because they say their stuff isn't pure.)

Well, the fact that the company has the honesty to put this oil under

'enfleurage' (as I mentioned earlier in this thread, the oil has been

produced for hundreds of years by placing the flowers in the fat of coconut

oil to extract the scent), tells me they might know what they're doing.

They only have two other oils in the enfleurage section, both from hawaii.

I'm tempted to make my first Liberty Naturals buy. :-) Their prices are

very low, and since I'm not concerned about therapeutic value, other than

aromachology, it seems reasonable.

Hi Anya and Group members.

To get Wellington go to www.wellingtonfragrance.com

I am experimenting with many different gardenias as I am creating a gardenia

memorial candle in honor of my brother Jon who died in July.

So when my brother Sherwood and I were contemplating the gardenia aroma from

Jon's casket piece (the gardenias were flown in from Calif), Sherwood

smelled chocolate (white chocolate?) and a lime freshness. I smelled a bit

of dried apple. The aroma was heavenly, light ethereal, innocent, fresh.

not heavy or cloying. The aroma radiated around our heads. A high vibration.

So I am on a quest. Consequently, I am using the following FO's: Chocolate

( a drop ) , Lily of the valley, different gardenias blended together,

different musks, green floral notes, tuberrose, orris,

The essential oils that I am using are Clary Sage, Lemon, Basil, lime,

Neroli, and Roman Chamomile.

The Tahitian gardenia is $1000.00 an oz. Icant put that in a candle.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate very much everything you are doing in this group. I am

learning a lot and always look forward to reading the posts each day!

I see they are a FO company, wholesale only. Probably not too relevant to

this group, but interesting. Occasinally, for candle/water diffusers, I get

some FOs from sweetcakes.com. Theirs are the best, IMO, and they sell in

small quantity, unlike wellington. You can get an ounce, vs. 8 oz minimum.

Gardenias - the fresh flowers - have a deep psychic, spiritual and

emotional impact on people. Some associate them with sensuality and sex. It

is a rare person who is unmoved by the gardenia in bloom. Next time I'm

near some G. jasminoides, I will really pay attention and take deep sniffs,

as I never got into the aspects - chocolate, apple, etc., like you and your

brother did. Perhaps gardenias can take on the mood of the moment - high

vibration, ethereal, etc., at a funeral, vs. heavy, unctuous and deeply

indolic-floral for sex.

Are you going to try some infused tahitian gardenia oil that we have been

writing about? Maybe it could provide the true base for your blend.

Where is that from? Is that an EO? Enfleurage? Absolute? As I posted

earlier, there are many sites with 'enfleuraged' Tahitian gardenia at

reasonable prices. I also think that folks could get their own

G. jasminoids and enfleurage their own. At this time of year, you'd have to

get them from a florist, as they only bloom in May/June normally. You'd

have to get them at the peak, and put them in oil immediately, as they

quickly break down into indole compounds that smell 'off'.

>I appreciate very much everything you are doing in this group. I am

Hey, it's not just me, Dorothy, I just started the group. It's the vast

breadth and depth of experience that others share here that count,

otherwise, it would just be me writing to me, LOL. We are learning

something every day, eh? For instance, about the massoia oil that nne

has, and Gail uses. Tony warned us of some dangers that may be in its use.

I think with his knowledge we can proceed cautiously, and I do intend to

get some of the oil and use it -- it sounds divine. But now I will be very

careful and use is diluted waaaaaaayyyy down (which Gail recommended

anyways.)

I didn't live and demonstrate and take life cautiously as a teenager in the

60s, and warnings about an EO/sex/drugs/rock and roll/protesting the

war/hitchhiking across country by myself/protesting civil rights

violations/marrying a man named Zap who had a dozen girlfriends/living

dangerously aren't going to stop me from doing 'stuff'. Within reason. :-)

So, essentially, I know not to go wild with the massoia, but I am going to

experiment. I welcome the ability to purchase it, and the warning about

potential problems. Boy, I've wandered off topic -- here's some more.....

Tony just posted something about helichrysum oil on another list, in

response to something i asked there. I think he should post it here. It may

be a little more aromatherpy-oriented, but the insights into the perfumery

industry in the post are quite funny and educational!

I think that is a good idea, I will try them. I am not sure how that oil

would work in candle wax though. I will also try sweetcakes. I have some of

their oils and have been somewhat disappointed in a few of them while others

have been very acceptable.

>The Tahitian gardenia is $1000.00 an oz. Icant put that in a candle.

Where is that from? Is that an EO? Enfleurage? Absolute? As I posted

earlier, there are many sites with 'enfleuraged' Tahitian gardenia at

reasonable prices.

I bought from white lotus aromatics and have been very pleased with what I

have received so far. It is Gardenia Absolute from Tahiti.

Yes, I appreciate and recognize such a diversity of expertise and passion in

this group.

It is very refreshing and wonderful.

Thanks to all.
