Dying Easter Eggs NaturallyUse drinks to dye your Easter eggs. Add vinegar and hard boiled eggs to coffee or tea to dye them brown. You can make unsweetened Kool Aid into dye. Or you could use vibrant juices like grape juice or cranberry juice. To Set the Dye add 2 tsp of Vinegar to the Water and bring to a boil with one of the following colors for 30 minutes: Pale Yellow: Celery Seed, Orange Peels, or Carrot Tops, lemon peels : add 1 (or more) of the items Pink: Beet Juice, or 1 fresh beet - boiled with the eggs, chopped rhubarb stalks, red onion skins, crushed raspberries Orange: Dried paprikaDeeper Yellow: Yellow Onion Skins, Ground Tumeric Spring Green: use the water from boiled spinach or dandelion leaves Orange: 2-3cups of chopped yellow onion skins. Lavender: any brand grape juice Blue: Boil red cabbage and allow to cool. Once cool you can dye your eggs with the juice. For Strange colors you can dye eggs with Kool-Aid Packets. To add writing, use a white crayon and draw designs or lettering, dye as usual Mix food coloring for dye. Add 20 to 40 drops of food coloringto a cup of water and vinegar. The amount of food coloring determinesthe shade of the color. You can mix different amounts two or morecolors to create a variety of shades. For fancier easter eggs, try marbling the easter egg dye onto the egg.For marbled easter eggs,put 1 Tablespoon of oil, 1 Tablespoon of vinegar and 1 Tablespoon offood coloring in a cup with enough boiling water to cover egg. Stirquickly with a spoon and drop in a hard boiled egg. Pull the egg out quickly and pat dry with paper towel. The rubber band easter egg is another great trick.Just wrap rubberbands in varying widths around your hard cooked eastereggs, then drop them in your choice of food-coloring dye. When they area color you like, remove the eggs, pat dry with paper towel and remove rubber bands.The parts of the egg that were covered with the rubber bands will notbe colored. After removing the rubber bands, you can leave them as theyare, or you can drop the egg into a different color dye. Dripwax from a lit taper candle onto the egg.After the wax is set, drop theegg into food coloring dye. Remove from the dye and pat dry. Chlorine and other chemicals willwork against the dye, making it less intense. Buy distilled water oruse your own filtered water. * For deeper colors, use more dyestuff or let the eggs soak longer. * For even coverage, cook eggs in a pot large enough to hold enoughwater and dyestuff to completely cover the eggs, even after some of theliquid has evaporated during the 15 minute of boiling. * Again, for even coverage, if you continue to soak the eggs in therefrigerator after cooking, make sure the eggs are completely coveredwith the dye liquid. * Blot the eggs dry or allow them to air dry, as for some colors thedye will rub off while still wet. On the other hand, if you wish tomake a white pattern on the egg, you can rub off some of the dye forsome colors immediately after cooking. * Make sure eggs of different colors are completely dry before pilingthem up in a bowl together, as wet dye from one egg can transfer toanother. .
