Can't answer that totally... but I've never heard of gold crowns being any problem.

What is the health impact of gold crowns? I need a crown replaced and I'm leaning toward gold as it is JUST 18k gold and touch of pure silver. I am not a grinder, but a clencher and I'm thinking the composites will not last nor will the porcelain. I've had gold crowns for over 30 years that are good as new, but I developed a cavity at the root line of this tooth and they need to remove my existing crown.

The price is about the same for all of them.

Thanks for your input........Shari

I have a mouth full of gold…they

hold up for 20+ years – my dh’s are 30 years old – and I’ve

never heard of any health problems with them. Tres expensive, though!

Thanks Suzanne and Sharyn. I've had my original crowns more than 30 years as well. I was just worried about problems that are associated with metal in your mouth. The price is about the same for any crown, gold or otherwise.

Now I'm going to work on getting the amalgams out of my mouth. They have been there for 40+ years. I'm wondering if they are the cause of the weakness on my right side...........hmmmmm........

Boy, if I removed all of my amalgams, I wouldn't have any teeth left. The vast majority of my teeth are made up mostly of fillings and pins. Very little actual tooth material.
