My freind at the health food store said to try olive oil on our dry skin. It

didn't sound to appetizing but I was game to try anything that would work. I

applied some to my arms and legs last night and could see a difference. She

said a woman she knows used the suana at the YMCA and used some kind of salt

to rub all over her body, then took a quick shower and then followed with the

olive oil and another shower. She siad the woman had the most beautiful skin

and hair. She also used it on her hair.

I know my body is run down and didn't someone here say dry hair, etc. could

be from the thyroid not working properly? I had an assesment done and they

said I am hypothyroid, my adrenals weren't working properly and my immune

system was in bad shape along with the stomach and digestive problems. With

the discussion being that when we are this run down and that is when the

candida gets out of control then I say no wonder. This was all a result of

going through withdrawal from xanax. I am so leary of anything the doctor

prescribes anymore. Through the xanax I am learning just how addicting and

toxic many medications are.

All we can do is to continue to educate ourselves and learn better and more

natural ways to work with our bodies.

,

here's my two cents, I suspect fungal overgrowth. If you can get your doc to prescribe sporonox it may work very well for that sore (I know it can work wonders on things like that) and may also impact the dry scaley flakes. I think selenium aand zinc added to your diet before bed may also help. try to get some....generic name is Itraconasol I believe...its an expensive one. If you cant get sporonox then thy aloe vera internally, its also antifungal, but it sounds like you need bigger guns! hoping you feel better. kathy

rheumatic dry skin

I tried tea tree shampoo a couple years ago and I didn't like it. The last shampoo my husband picked up was Alberto VO5 and for once my head is not itchy, itchy. Used to drive me nuts, now, I seldom have an itchy head. I shampoo once per week.

For some reason my legs have yellow pieces of dead skin coming off. I look like a chicken, yuck. Any suggestions? I do take salmon oil 1000 mg.

I got a small opening halfway on my left leg which had a thick scab. I don't know how it happened. I take a while to heal so I covered it with a band-aid which was changed every so often. Well, last Fri. night I discovered it was the size of a quarter(1-2cms) with a partially loosened thick scab. I am so upset. I know that H2O2 and betadine are no longer recommended but H2O2 is all I have. I don't want to use calendula, yet. I am so afraid it isn't going to heal, never mind the ugly scar I'll have to match the one on my foot from an ulcer there.

[ ] Dry Skin

Hi Friends,

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else have really dry skin? It seems like

I can moisturize constantly, drink lots of fluids, and still have dry skin.

The minute the humidity goes below 50%, my skin dries out even more. I was

just curious if this is an RA thing.

By the way, my skin may not like the lower humidity but my joints really do.

I'm feeling unusually good.

Wishing all a pain free night,

Carol

Carol, I've never seen a strong link between RA and dry skin, but dry

skin is very common in hypothyroidism, diabetes, Sjogren's syndrome, and

with hormonal changes. Glad to hear that you are feeling good!

Thanks, , for the links. I am slightly hypothyroid (maybe we need to

adjust the meds) and I have the dry eyes/mouth from RA. Either one could be

the culprit, I guess.

To all those who have dry eyes: my optometrist recommended gel eye drops

for use in the evening, and they really work well. If my eyes are really

bad during the day, I use them even then. Just don't count on seeing well

for a few minutes afterward.

Love and hugs,

Carol

Tammy, my son has the prickly bumps on the backs of his upper arms.He

has been on ProEFA for about 9 -10 months now and we still have the

problem but to a lesser degree. Cetaphil lotion (available at just

about any pharmacy) is a good lotion - no perfumes or other yucky

things. It's cheap and very effective.

Chlorine isn't so good for any of us so we are now keeping a spray

bottle with a mixture of water and Epsom Salt handy. When our son gets

out of the pool, we " spritz " him now and again. The Epsom Salt helps

our bodies get rid of toxins. Also after pool time, he has an Epsom

Salt bath and we put the Cetaphil lotion on.

Hope this helps.

funny you should mention the dry skin thing. My son who is 6 has always had

dry skin during change of weather, and ive tried every lotion, baby lotion,

etc nothing seemed to work. Than I bought Aveeno oatmeal bath, and if you use

it reguarly and lotion him up with aveeno lotion, it seems to work really

well for us. my son has a bad reaction to almost every lotion ive ever used

except for aveeno. I also figured out a way to save money on the oatmeal bath.

You can buy just plain old quaker oats and put it in your food processor

and blend it until it is ground into a fine powder, hence, colloidal oatmeal,

and use that instead of aveeno, in my experience it has the same effect, and

ingredients. Aveeno oatmeal bath is like $5 for 6 packs, which is only good

for 6 baths, as opposed to $2 for a box of quaker oats which you will get

about 30 baths out of ! hope this helps

My son was diagnosed with psoriasis (spl?). There is few things that helped him.

1. Fish oil (I haven't tried ProEFA but I will as soon as I get it)

2. I buy Herba Bidentis (Bur-Marigold) from online. It is leaves so I I brew it

as a tea and then add to bath tub water. This one is kind of tough to find but I

can e-mail you website address privately. This one would help with inflammation

on skin.

I think fish oil is essential for the dry skin.

and

PS my son's skin improves as his skin is exposed to the sun though

you just make sure you rinse it down good, and depending on how often you

use it, you can pour a little bleach down the drain, every few days if it starts

to back up. I happen to clean my bathroom every week or so, so maybe the

tile cleaner and all that stuff helps, ive never had a problem with it not

going down the drain? hhmm, something to ponder ! lol !

Michele,

how do you get all the oatmeal out of tub? It seems that drain will get clogged

by it.

Some people have suggested using car wax on the sides (not the floors)

of fiberglass tubs and shower enclosures. That way, they don't have

the problems with things sticking to them (soap scum, residue). This

worked for us because my son likes to use bathroom crayons and paints

in the tub. Now that we've waxed the sides of the tub, everything

rinses off better and there isn't the same problem with soap scum etc.

Again, for safety sake, remember not to wax the floor of the tub or

shower for obvious reasons.

Our DAN! doctor and pediatrician confirmed the bumps on the back of the

upper arms as a clear sign of Omega 3 deficiency. Marco has been taking

Pro-EFA for two years (has taken 2 at a time since November) but still he

has developed Omega 3 deficiency. We are going to gradually add Pro-EPA

(Omega 3) starting in about a week...to see if that will help. He has

suggested dropping back to one Pro-EFA in the mornings then one Pro-EPA

mid-day - to change the percentages of Omega 3-6-9. Again, this is what we

are going to try for an omega program personalized for my son's needs and is

not intended to be a general advice for the masses. If this doesn't work,

we will explore WHY his body is not processing Omegas well.

I brought Coconut oil back from Canada with me in October. I did not realise how

fast i would use it up so had my mom send me more. It takes many weeks for me to

get something (maybe 6 to 8) so I am without it for a while. WHat other than

butter can I cook with. I have no access to uncured bacon. I have only maybe

beef and pork and lamb to eat that have fat on them but have a difficulty to eat

a lot of that kind of fat to get enough during the day. I have olive oil but

can't cook with it. Anyhow any suggestions on ideas to get enough fat into me

now?

Kate

PS I am completely stopped from taking antifungals now as something had gone

wrong. I had been taking the garlic for months adn had little symptoms of die

off when I started to add the pau darco to it. Then it just all seemed to set

something off that I had such a hard time reversing without just stopping

everything for a while.

I have been reading about how people with low blood sugar can have issues with

ingesting a lot of garlic and Pau d arco tea. It makes their low blood sugar

worse which symptoms can be similiar to die off. Do you know if you have any

issues with low blood sugar?

I cook with olive oil all the time. You just don't want to use high heat. See:

for information regarding cooking with olive oil.

I get coconut oil from www.herb.com. It takes two days. Why does it take you

such a long time? There are other places to get it also off the web.

Chlorine in your water makes baby's skin dry. Get a chlorine ball....and use

some coconut oil on their skin to clear it up.

This might help:

http://califmichele.com/health/burn.html I have it listed as a treatment

for burns but it also works well with very dried out skin and other skin

problems.

Also: infants do not necessarily need to be bathed every day. Doing so can

remove the oils on their delicate skin and dry them out too much. Some

folks give babies a full bath every other day and only give them a sponge

bath on the days in between to try to prevent the skin from drying out too

much.

As for the bumps, some possible explanations:

The bumps on the stomach could be an indicator of an infection or parasitic

infestation of some type. I do not recall the name of what I had, but I had

bumps like that on my stomach as a girl. It was an infestation of some

parasite. Also, my oldest son was an infant, he had bumps like that in

reaction to drinking something he was allergic to. They did not look like

hives or a rash but there were an indiction of an allergic reaction. Also,

for babies, it is not unusual to be very sensitive to laundry detergent or

other chemicals in their clothes, so that is another possible cause of a

skin reaction like that.

I hope that helps and good luck,

Are you chelating? Are you giving essential fatty acids at the same time?

(Remember that the fish oils have to be clean of mercury!)

Yeast could cause this.

Also - parasites (even better chances). Parasites could also cause dry skin,

but that could be caused by so many other things... I don't really know.

For my kids, this meant food intolerance and EFA deficiency.
