Guest guest
Listmates, There are many Colostrum products out there on the market that claim to be casein free. One of our fine doctors on another list went out and tested some of these and found that they did contain casein. There is a product out there named Kirkman's Colostrum Gold that is not only casein free but gluten free as well. Many of us who are in one way or another associated with the autism community know of many kids who are on casein free and gluten free diet who take this product with great success. If any of you are familiar with these diets you will know one drop of casein or gluten can cause major regressions immediately. So far no one I am aware of has had a negative reaction to this Colostrum. I would grab this product if you can b/c my family is quite pleased with the effects we have seen in my daugher, son and yes my 9 year old obese Yorkshire terrier! You can go to the Kirkman labs website at www.kirkmanlabs.com Sincerely, << We tried colostrum with my daughter when she had eczema. There was a big string on this awhile back! Anyway, she had milk allergies and could NOT take the stuff. I called the company and it does contain casein and whey and some people with milk allergies do have problems. Guest guest
I maintain a supply (not a stash:) of things such as: 1.bee propolis (natural antibiotic..what the queen bee gets) 2. echinacea/astragalus liquid...this is great because it can be given per the body weight of the child so you know your not overdosing. Make sure not to give constantly. I give it as needed for no more than 14 days at a time. It acts like an antibiotic if given for to long...it will become ineffective later. I have heard a variety of days, some say no more than 10 days and then 10 days off. The important thing is not to keep giving it all winter. 3. Vitamin c- As a younger child (infant) I would use calcium ascorbate crystal powder. This was great for mixing in with some water, or a weak tea. At about 8 months old I would use about 250 mg. especially during winter when more colds are going around. During the summer I am more lax about the vit. c. Now that she is older I give tablets. If possible avoid chewable vit c. The naturally occuring acid in them is NOT good for the enamel on the teeth, unless you get them to brush immediately. 4. Flax seed oil- 1 tsp. per day I started using this when she was about 8 months old. This is good for helping with ear wax buildup which could lead to ear problems, preventing allergies, and heart because it has omega oil (same as in fish) 5. This year (she was between 22 months and 2 years) I have started to give elderberry capsules. (I just learned about this one.) This is a great anti-viral and anti-bacterial supplement. Research indicates it is great as a flu preventative/treatment. This is also sold as a liquid that you can give by body weight to younger kids. 6. oscillociunium-homeopathic remedy for the flu. It can be given to kids under age two...it would be 1/3 of a tube vs. 1 tube for anyone over age two. This lasts a long time in a cool/dark place. 7. organic fresh carrot juice-This has lots of natural beta carotene which is great to fight off a cold. Other things to boost my daughter's immune system: 1. Plenty of rest 2. If she isn't feeling well...we stay in, especially with the extreme cold weather we have been getting. 3. To the best of my ability...organic food including eggs, meat, etc. This way she is not gettin all the pesticides that have safe levels for adults but NO SAFE level for young children. 4. Absolutely NO dairy (including goat milk) when she has a runny/stuffed up nose. 5. I use goat milk (most like breastmilk according to my naturopath...also a family history of milk allergies.) 6. Plenty of exercise/activity (During the winter we 'chase' each other around the house:) 7. Good hygiene (wash hands) 8. No fluoride toothpaste. We also use a filter for the water (unfortunately it doesn't get rid of fluoride from the water.) Reverse osmosis filters to remove the fluoride. Fluoride is a pesticide. This warrants research also. These are just a couple things I do. In the beginning it seems a lot...after awhile it just becomes how you live life. touie@... wrote: > > From: touie@... > > Other than breast milk, what can I give my unvaccinated child to > increase his immunity? > > > > ---------------------------

It's my understanding that astragalus is safe to take daily in small amounts, Chinese use it in cooking as a general immune booster. It's the echinacea that should not be taken for more than 14 days, according to the studying we've done. Anyone with contrary info, please speak up. Something else I would add to 's great suggestions is to limit intake of refined sugar, it suppreses immune function. Aubin
Guest guest
I agree 100% w/the sugar also. We use honey, stevia, molasses...anything that has some nutritional value and in small amounts. That note was for the echinacea but most of the children liquids come with either astragalus or goldenseal, etc. The warning was meant for echinacea . lisa Aubin Parrish wrote: > > From: " Aubin Parrish " <parrish1@...> > > >From: Reiss <lisa@...> > > >2. echinacea/astragalus liquid...this is great because it can be given > >per the body weight of the child so you know your not overdosing. > >Make sure not to give constantly. Guest guest
Hi , If you really want to boost your child's immune system you need to do some research into colostrum. The best company to buy from is Symbiotics. I have the web link if you would like it. I give it to my kids and both my husband and I take it every day and we have not gotten sick all winter. I also run a daycare and those children are always sick with runny noses and coughing and sneezing. But no one has gotten even as much as a sniffle. It is wonderful stuff!!! It has so many good things about it I don't want to list them all here when they are on their website. The all natural doctor here even suggests everyone not vaccinating their children should have their kids on this. So it is not only my opinion. We also do the no sugar, and lots of fruits and veggies and good foods to, just like had mentioned earlier. But I highly suggest to everyone to check into the colostrum. Even if you have milk allergies you can take this stuff because it doesn't even come close to being in the milk category. If you would like more or want that website address , please feel free to email me. I hope this helps! Guest guest
Wow, you give her all that stuff a day? Seems like a lot. Or just when she is more likely to be coming down with something? -----
Guest guest
Regarding immunity boosters, what we use for our unvaccinated 22 month old is occasional acupucture and constitutional homeopathic treatment..along with herbs and organic wholefoods etc. Hope this is useful to someone!
