Guest guest
Yeah, those daily indulgences add up to a tremendous economic and health crisis on the personal and national level. That's cool pointing out what 3 mountain dews a day add up to over the course of a month. I think it would be powerful to make a display, take the jar of 32 teaspoons of sugar representing one day's worth, then have a bucket with a month's worth, then next to that the pallet of what a year's worth would be. That would be a graphic example, maybe with the caption, " And you're wondering why you can't loose any weight? " Anyone feel free to forward anything I put up on this site. Like it or not we're in a war and it's only through grassroots informational exchange that a conscious change towards a sustainable future takes place. Sometimes I make mistakes and I certainly don't know a whole lot but if each of us does something in mass that adds up to a lot of power. Part of what the system does is to disempower each individual making us think we are weak and powerless to do anything. That's total B.S. and there are lots of historical examples of people who loved enough to try to do something different and managed to enact huge change. One of my teachers had a story to illustrate this. He was at an earth day conference/celebration with hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people attending the event. Trash littered the ground everywhere, his 6 year old son said, " Daddy, why don't they do something? Aren't they trying to save the earth? " A response (which I don't remember) was muttered, and the child took it upon himself to go pick up a piece of paper and put it in the trash can. Other people saw what the child was doing and started picking up trash to. It was like an expanding wave that spread throughout the event as dozens and dozens and dozens of people also started picking up trash. So my teacher uses this to say, " If you don't know what to do to save the earth, go pick up a f###ing piece of paper. " Tremendous wisdom, even if shared using coarse language.
