Guest guest
Yup, yeast and sodas do it for us. If I take my enzymes with water or non carbonated beverages I'm good, unless there is a severe yeast issue going on, in which case I'm sunk until I treat it. I just started taking them myself and it seems like that's when I started getting heartburn while I eat. It doesn't always happen, but it has a few times and I never usually get heartburn. This is me when I eat a food that the enzymes don't help. Dana
Guest guest
HI , I suffer from acid reflux too, and it's not fun. I get chest pain most of the time instead of the burn feeling. There is a great book out called, Eating for Acid Reflux. I think the authors last name is Cohen, can't remember. I take Nexium, but am going to try HNI's Peptizyde and Zyme Prime. I have a friend that said he was able to get off the daily meds with the use of enzymes. If I have to use something, I'd rather go natural like with enzymes. Guest guest
Most heartburn is actually caused by a lack of, rather than excess of acid. Acid suppressors will make the situation worse. They may relieve the symptoms, but do not address the underlying cause. Antacids interfere with normal digestion because they neutralize any stomach acid. With deficient or absent HCL, food is not digested properly, and it putrifies and ferments instead. Fermentation acids are extremely corrosive. Try taking Betaine HCl caps with your meals and see if it helps. Take one to start, and see if your heartburn is better or worse. Guest guest
Are you using enzymes? I started enzymes about 2 weeks ago and my hearburn is no longer an issue. I think I've lost a few inches as well! Sometimes I still feel like I have some indigestion, but it depends on what or how much I eat (sugar and carbs seem to aggrivate my heartburn). I use Zyme Prime and Peptizyde from Housten Nurtaceuticals. I don't have a hiatal hernia, however, so my circumstance is probably different than yours. Before I even thought digestive enzymes could make a difference, I used Zantac whenever I got heartburn. I'd get a prescription from my doctor so I could get more/stronger medicine then if I bought the OTC version. Guest guest
Hi ! I have used apple cider vineger!! This well do the same as antacids(aluminum in them). It is not the cure but well give relief(also has many health benefits)!! I recommend diluting it with some water, it can have a little burn sensation if you dont. I dont know if you had a chance to read the mercola article on flouride I posted? But I have always wondered why acid reflux is becoming such an epedemic in our country? I feel it is the lack of enzymes in our food etc due to processing/chemicals. But it is so out of control(acid reflux), wasnt like this 15-20yrs ago or less. I find it interesting that the very floride in all our water etc(soda's also), toothpaste is being found to be very toxic and also destroys enzymes among much more. I cant help but feel there is a relation to all the acid reflux our country is experiencing and flouride/lack of natural accuring enzymes that should be in our food. Hope the vineger helps!! I cleaned up my diet along with my child's ... Our whole house went gluten/casein free and sugar free ...and corn free ... and got rid of all transfatty acids. Guest guest
HeartburnThe production of hydrochloric acid for the digestion of food is about a quart of the acid every day on average in a normal human being. The protective mucus lining or the intestinal mucosa effectively shields the stomach from the corrosive effects of the acid and it has no effect whatsoever on the stomach. However the esophagus or the food tube is not lined with intestinal mucosa and is very likely to be damaged by any acid that runs up its length, for example when vomiting, the highly acidic semi digestive food can corrode the esophagus, this is why vomiting time and again is not good. Whenever for any reason, the acid reaches the tissues or the lining of the esophagus, burning sensation is produced because of the corrosive effects of the acid on the tissues, this sensation is what is commonly known as heartburn, medically it is defined as gastroesophageal reflux.Because of the actions of the lower esophageal sphincter or LES, the acid produced in the stomach rarely enters the esophagus, and it is effectively restricted to the stomach itself. During normal digestive processes, this sphincter relaxes to let in the masticated food and liquids and immediately constricts again, leaving the stomach to carry out the processes of digesting the food with the help of the acid and other enzymes. The problem begins when some of the content of the stomach somehow escapes into the esophagus, because of improper constriction of the LES; this can lead to heartburn.Heartburn can be brought about by several underlying internal and external factors. Smoking as a habit can contribute to the weakening of the LES and bring about heartburn, obesity or being overweight are also causes for heartburn, and pregnant are susceptible to it compared to other women. The reason that smoking is a contributory factor is that it leads to the drying out of saliva, one of the functions of saliva is that when swallowed it leads to the neutralization of any acid that may have entered the esophagus, that is saliva washes acid away or back into the stomach, a dry mouth such as induced by smoking reduces salivary output and affects the esophageal acid content. The relaxation of the LES can also be induced by the actions of certain types of food items, these include fatty foods such as chocolate, drinks containing alcohol, and herbs like garlic and onions, several drugs and prescription medications can also bring about this state of affairs. Excessive acid levels can come about in the stomach because of the ingestion of certain acidic food items including citrus fruits, vegetables like tomatoes and even coffee. The contents of the stomach including acid can be forced upwards because of wearing certain tight clothing, especially those that pinch around the abdomen or waist. Prolonged output of acid can result because of overeating which also increases the pressure in the stomach and can lead to the oozing out of excess acid into the esophagus. The position of the body can also play a role, and one should not lie down too soon after a meal as this can increase the chances of acid entering the esophagus, because of the tilt.Supplements and herbsThe supplements provided here will give relief from heartburn, and can be used for the effective treatment of the disorder, those underlined provide immediate relief and are for use during sudden attacks. Each supplement or combination of supplements may work differently in different people; you will have to try out different combinations of supplements to see what can be effective to your particular body type. These supplements have no side effects whatsoever and can be combined and used along with prescription drugs and medications suggested by a doctor to treat the symptoms of heartburn. For occasional refluxes and heartburn, the commonly used mineral in antacids, calcium carbonate is effective, and is utilized in tablets like Tums. Relief form heartburn can also be obtained through the use of deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL); this substance helps in the restoration of the mucus lining of the inner stomach and will prove useful in combating heartburn and related symptoms. The irritation in the esophagus can be soothed and relieved through the use of the juice of the aloe vera, this juice is very soothing and its mucilage can provide healing. All the supplements and herbs suggested above are for use against an attack of heartburn, and are effective in combating it as a therapeutic measure. However it is beneficial to strengthen the digestive process in the body, for long term prevention of heartburn from occurring, this preventive approach is an excellent way to go about dealing with heartburn, and can help many people avoid getting chronic heartburn. With regard to this, a long-term use can be made of gamma-oryzanol, which is an extract of the rice bran. This compound may affect the digestive process in the body by an indirect action through the central nervous system and will prove useful in the long term against heartburn. Additionally other treatment options in the long term include the use of a combination of the B vitamins and related compounds like choline, thiamin and pantothenic acid, these should bring preventive relief in about a months time and the symptoms of heartburn should recede. Approach your physician if this has not happened and heartburn still surfaces from time to time even after long term supplementation. What else you can doTo bring down the excessive production of acid in the stomach, change your dietary habits to include frequent but small meals and avoid overeating. It is advisable to limit or reduce your consumption of alcohol and to stop drinking coffee altogether, this include decaf, also reduce or avoid your intake of oily and fatty foods. Eating just before sleeping is not a good idea, and make sure that an interval of at least three hours exist between your last snack or meal and the time of sleep. For better protection against accidental reflux, let gravity help you by using a large and comfortable pillow or by adjusting the head of the bed about six inches higher than the rest of the bed.Usual dosage* Aloe vera juice, two cups of aloe vera juice, containing 98% aloe vera and no aloin or aloe-emodin, three times daily between meals.* Licorice (DGL), two wafers (380mg) of deglycyrrhizinated licorice, three or four times daily between meals.* Vitamin B1(thiamin), 500 mg daily, should be taken in the morning on empty stomach. Combine with vitamin B5 and choline for chronic heartburn.* Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), 1,000 mg two times daily. Use in combination with choline and vitamin B1 for chronic heartburn.* Calcium carbonate, 250-500 mg thrice daily.* Choline, 500 mg thrice daily. Use in combination with vitamin B5 and vitamin B1 for chronic heartburn.* Gamma-oryzanol (rice bran oil), 150 mg thrice daily (on an empty stomach).More useful herbs* Anise* Barberry* Cinnamon* Devil's Claw* Fennel* Horsetail* Meadowsweet* Peppermint* Slippery Elm* White Willowhttp://www.herbs2000.com/disorders/heartburn.htm "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food"http://vanokat.wholefoodfarmacy.com/2005/ga_home.asp Mark 1311. Guest guest
thanks for the suggestion but that would not do it in this case. My husband actually takes a probiotic capsule every day which has many more organisms than Activia and the Heartburn still persists. But on a different note, you said you were diagnosed in Dec.08 so you are almost at the one year mark doing the BP, raw veggies, etc. I am curious to know if your cancer has receded? remission? what has happened? I do not know yet how the BP is influencing my husband's tumor. He does not have any mets at this time. Interested in hearing your story. Thanks, Nili [ ] HEARTBURN Nili: I was diagnosed with nsclc (with mets) in Dec.08. The raw food, juicing, BP also gave me heartburn (and a lot of gas). My regular doctor (never went back to the onc) told me to eat Activia (the whole container) with my mixture. I add 2 teaspoons to my FOCC - that helps a lot. Best wishes You wrote; ...My husband has been diagnosed with Non Small Cell Lung Cancer at the end of August. Since his tumor has remained stable and exhibits no growth, he is trying to control the cancer without chemo or radiation. He has been on the Budwig Protocol for about 8 weeks and he also takes some other supplements. He feels pretty good but his one huge problem is constant heartburn. He has tried Apple Cider Vinegar and that has not worked. He has tried l-limonene and it has not worked. I would love to hear any suggestions from anyone out there who has dealt with this. He is trying to stay away form conventional medications. Thank you for any and all suggestions Nili
Guest guest
Hello again Nilli: If the heartburn is coming reasonably close to consuming the Budwig Protocol, then both of you should assume it may not be doing what you intend the diet to do. I would check with the experts on Budwig and ask whether or not Bicarbonate of Soda conflicts with Budwig because to this day, there is no faster or 'better' relief for heatburn. Perhaps if you 'break the trend', the body will turn things around with all the good things being done. He is giving it his best effort with your help of course so maybe trying to take a very effective substance, pretty harmless at that, you do break that curse. I do not mean to live one's life using Bicarb, just enough to make changes happen. If the 'heartburn' is something that comes well after eating, or at night, for sure I'd use it. It is such fast relief you could take out a stop-watch after drinking it as directed on the box, you will probably not reach 30 seconds. Again, check about the conflict potential but then again, exactly how good is Budwig if every meal results in heartburn? Probably not good at all. This is strictly opinion. Now, there is one thing I used when a Duodonal Ulcer plagued me for a long time, was a mixture comprised mostly of Bismuth, Licorice, Grapefruit seed and Goldenseal Root. The name is Gastromycin and it is made by Allergy Research Group and I know Vitamin Shoppe carries it. It doesn't need to be taken with food so that might allow it to be used with Budwig. If you want to read a mind-boggling story on how Bismuth totally stopped years of Ulcer suffering, contact me off the list. It is a story that is interesting. Some use Mastic Gum, another product designed for stomach issues put out by Allergy Research and they claim that the New England Journal of Medicine supposedly endorsed Mastic Gum for gastrointestinal health. ??? Good luck in your quest. No, I don't know everything (ha) it's just that I've been around so long I've stumbled upon a lot of things. I started this 'alternative learning' when I was around ten years old. A long time ago. Joe C.
