Hi Friends...I met with the neurosurgeon yesterday...at first he seemed

very cold, but I really think perhaps he's shy and needs time to warm

up, as that's what he did. He was kind, respectful, gentle and

thorough.

I have a herniated lumbar disk (at L5) with foot drop. He said surgery

should have been done within 24 hours of my visit to ER on Jan. 18, but

because of all the hoops one has to go through to get approval he rarely

sees anything happen that quickly anymore. After the first 24 hours,

surgical success rates go down.

He is having me go to PT 3 x weekly for 4 weeks, and fitting me for a

foot and leg brace. If there is no improvement, we need to talk about

surgery.

The worst part of all this is that I am so very heavy, and my right leg

having to be dragged along because it is so weak I get winded and

exhausted quickly. I've been working hard on eating better, and I

really need to keep my mobility up but it is so hard right now.

Does anyone know of a site that describes exercises while seated? I've

got to try something. My left side is now flared with sciatica from

having to do all the work for both sides. I'm running a lowgrade fever,

and tired.

I am a little discouraged. Thank you all for caring.

Hugs...

Tess

some uplifting news that my family received yesterday. My Dad is for now in

remission from his cancer. A quick background - my Dad has had cancer on and

off for 24 years. He has a difficult to treat type and there is no

traditional treatment, he has been both blessed from above and blessed with

good Dr's. and the man has the most positive attitude you could ever imagine.

After 4 years of continuous surgery and chemo, they stumbled upon a new chemo

Dearest Beth,

What wonderful news!!! Praying that your dad

continues to hear " no sign of the cancer! "

His positive attitude helps too doesn't it?

We know you do as much as you possibly can.

I for one *know* that when and if I need you...

you will be right here for me...you always are.

There have been many times I needed to hear

the words you e-mailed me, and I am so thankful

to have you with us.

Love & hugs, tricia

Dear Beth,

Thanks for sharing. This is wonderful news. Your Dad sounds like a

wonderful person. I will be praying for you and your family. My

Grandfather had Cancer twice and beat it. I believe the positive attitude

has a lot to do with it. Unfortunately he is no longer with us but it

wasn't from the Cancer.

My Grandfather was Norwegian and he believed that drinking tea made from

wood chips from a rare tree found in Norway would cure his Cancer. His

sister in Norway chopped down one of these trees and sent him wood chips

from this tree. He made tea from it and drank it daily. He told everyone

that this is what cured his Cancer. I wish I could remember what type of

tree it was. Well it appears that either the tea or his incredible belief

that drinking this tea would cure him, did in fact cure him. His Doctors

were truly amazed that he beat the Cancer. I believe that our minds are

very powerful and if we truly and whole heartedly believe in something it

will come true.

Thanks for listening to my story, and Thank You Beth for sharing this

incredible news with us.

Love,

Dearest Beth,

I read your letter with joy, and I know just what this feeling is like. My

37 year old brother has been remission for almost 11 years this October. He

was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma on this 26 birthday. When they

found it, he only had a 40% chance. He has been doing very well, and what a

feeling to hear that word " remission " . Beth, your father sounds like a

fighter. I love his attitude, and I honestly believe that attitude has so

much to do with it. This was absolutely wonderful news for you to share

with us, after such a difficult week. It came at the right time. Please

let your father know how happy everyone here is to hear of this terrific

news Beth! This new chemo sounds like a miracle. I apologize about your

dad being sick Beth, somehow I didn't know or missed it. I will continue to

send positive thoughts his way always, and I hear you smiling friend.

Congratulations!

Love,Sue #2

of mine had the surgery. She had the rubber bands and had about 5

tiny incisions. She went from a 3x to a missy 16. She had the

surgery on advice of her dr because her legs were getting so useless

and she could hardly walk because of the weight. She is doing fine,

looks wonderful, and is walking much better. I would love to have

that done, but I can't afford it. I weight 270 and I did weigh 135.

I would love to get down to a size 14 or 16. I am trying the

Carbohydrates Addict's Diet, which is a lot like Dr. Atkins. I

haven't finished reading the book, but she has lost a ton of weight

and (she being my daughter in law) my son lost 17# in 3 months, just

eating what she was eating. It sounds like an easy diet to stick to,

but as with any diets, you just have to change your lifestyle. I am

62 y/o, and have a divorce pending from a marriage of 42 years. My

dh was seeing a younger woman that was a cocaine addict, went from

one prison to another due to drug trafficking and rehabs for using.

I tried for nearly 7 years to keep my marriage together, and when I

got sick with all these auto immune disorders, I was miserable, my

weight was skyrocketing, I also had Peripheral Neuropathy and

couldn't stand clothes on my back, so I didn't go out, didn't feel

like having sex (this bothered him a lot) so he just found his

happiness somewhere else, but he sure picked a lu lu . I hope you

continued success, Tess. I haven't posted much cause I can't answer

my emails. I have to get my kaputer fixed. God Bless
