When it comes to fear mongering of any magnitude, I feel like I've been to the circus and back several times, and I no longer wish to waste my time following the hype. My approach to avoiding the H1N1 flu is no different than my approach to avoiding illness in general. I wash my hands with regular soap and water whenever I use a public restroom and every time I return home. I try to get enough sleep so that I'm not tired during the day. I try to avoid highly processed foods, especially those that are rich in sugar and deep-fried components. I eat mainly nutrient-dense vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains. I eat cultured foods like kim chi for natural probiotics. I take probiotics, sometimes a stand-alone, and every day in our green food powder. I take a handful of other whole food supplements that ensure optimal ongoing nourishment of all of my organ systems. I play tennis or some other sport that makes me sweat and have fun a few times a week. I have never received a flu shot and don't plan on getting one. Ever. And that's all I have to say about the H1N1 flu and vaccine. Hope these thoughts are helpful in some way. *** From Our Mailbag: Hey Ben, I wanted to let you know that over the past two weeks, everyone has gotten a cold except for me. Jade (her youngest child) was the first one to get sick, and Dan (her husband) was the last to fall...he succumbed over the weekend. I'm absolutely sure that the only reason why I've been spared is that I've been really steady with the greens and vitamin C since the end of August. In fact, I'd like to pat myself on the back because as soon as Jade's nose started running, I upped my intake of greens and cherry powder to 3 times a day. Thought you'd like to know. Thanks! - Mississauga, ON --- did just what I do - when people around me start getting sick, I mega-dose with our greens and acerola cherry powder. For more information on taking these whole food supplements for immune system support, view: Our Super Green Food Formula https://www.drbenkim.com/sunshop/index.php?l=product_detail & p=3 Our Acerola Chery Powder (Natural Vitamin C): https://www.drbenkim.com/sunshop/index.php?l=product_detail & p=48 I've been taking these two items for more than five years now, and my experience has been that they can significantly improve immune system strength. *** If you're a fan of oatmeal on chilly fall and winter mornings, be sure to check out my recent post on how to make oatmeal with steel-cut oats: http://drbenkim.com/healthy-oatmeal-recipe-steel-cut-oats.htm Cooking with steel-cut oats takes about 15 minutes longer than with "instant" varieties, but if you give it a go, I think you'll find the extra effort to be worthwhile. *** One last item for today: if you missed my post on "the real secret" from earlier this year, please feel free to have a look at an updated version here: http://drbenkim.com/real-secret.htm And a thought on prayer to say good bye for now with: "Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays." - Søren Kierkegaard Until next time, I wish you safety and good health.
