Yikes Joan. I heard it on the news and was thinking about you. Very

scary. I remember years ago, Duff and I were in San Fran with . He

was just a baby and we were on the 26th floor of a Holiday Inn. They had a

mere 5.6 on the Richter and our beds were slamming against the wall. I

couldn't wait to leave there. Living in Philly, we don't get natural

disasters; only human made ones, like our embarrassing Mardi Gras fiasco last

night....:(

Hope it's not too bad out there!!!

Glad to hear you are okay. I just talked to my

grandparents. They live in Seattle on North Greenwood

in a retirement facility, he is 97 and she is 90. He

said well, the ground shook, things fell, pictures are

askew, but no cracks. So we were very thankful,

especially since we are several thousand miles away and

can't get there in a short period of time. Pretty good

size also at 7.

The news showed a speech Bill Gates was giving when it

hit, pretty impressive to those of us down south.

Once again, glad you are ok!

We here in Portland, some of us anyways, are alright. My home was rocked and

it may have gotten a crack down the middle, we're not sure. It felt sort of

like when you're washing machine gets thrown off cycle and it sounds

horrible and shifts, but in huge magnitude. I heard from Childrens Hospital

this morning and they're computers are still offline. Right before it hit,

my cats arched their backs and ran under my bed.

It was a very deep earthquake or the Seattle area would have been

devastated, as well as Portland. My sister felt it, some 150 miles south of

us. Everyone in Seattle take care and if all you can do is call out, give me

a call, I'll pass on your messages to the list..

and Kathy,

I didn't feel it here in Orinda. Where was it centered? Well I've got to

go and make a Winnie the Pooh birthday cake for my daughter's party tomorrow.

She'll be 4 years on Aug, 21. I hope we don't get any big aftershocks.

Yes, I felt it. I felt the ripple pass through our house. In our front

room we have windows on the

bottom (by the room) and on the top (by the ceiling) and our top windows

shook as if there was

a storm outside. Our lights were swinging and our upstairs bedroom shutters

were moving.

I haven't felt an earthquake for years! It was kinda fun, as long as no one

gets hurt.

I'm thankful that the boys are a camp. I just ran for Essie and stood in a

doorway away from the windows. We lived in Alameda during the quake in 89.

Yikes. Years ago, when I was in SF, there was a 5.4 at two in the morning.

We were on the 22nd floor of a Holiday Inn. I remember the bed banging

against the wall. I couldn't WAIT to leave SF (can't wait to go back now,

as it's so beautiful). VERY scary!! I hope everyone is ok too!!!

We felt it!!! Jeff was in the shower and didn't feel a thing. I was half

awake/half asleep, and all of the sudden the bed started shaking ... shaking

a LOT and I couldn't figure out why (I thought that I was dreaming). But

then our doors started opening and then slamming shut ... and it was like

the entire room was shaking! (My first thought was that Jeff was playing a

practical joke on me, rigging the bed to make it a vibrating bed, LOL!) And

I heard a rumbling sound, too. And Little Beast stood up and had such a

weird look on her face ... I sat up and yelled for Jeff to see if he was OK,

but he couldn't hear me because of the noise of the shower. When he got

done, I yelled to him and said, " Did you feel that? " And he was like,

" What? " It was so freaky ... reminded me of the earth tremor that happened

in Indiana a while back (I was maybe 10 years old, not sure). Geez, what a

way to wake up this morning!!! hehe :-) And the thing is, all yesterday

Little Beast was acting SO funny ... we would pet her and she would bite our

fingers like she didn't want to be touched, and then she slept on our bed

and didn't really lift her head up when we came into the room ... she just

seemed scared of something or like she wasn't feeling good. And we were

worried about her, thinking that she was sick, but they say that cats can

feel little tremors (that's just what I've heard, I don't know). So she must

have been feeling this yesterday before it happened. Because now she's

absolutely fine! Here's a news story about it (although it says it happened

in New Hampshire, geez!):

Hmm All I felt was the sound of a woodpecker(possibly) pecking at the

chimney. I think, I went out but didnt see him. About 15 minutes ago.

Hope you all are ok other than shaken a bit.

Good morning.....Did anyone feel the earthquake this morning? We sure did.

My bed felt like somebody was underneath it, lifting it up and moving it

back and forth. The lamp looked like it was going to fall off the night

stand! First earthquake I've felt. They're saying it was centered in

Plattsburg and 5.1 on the richter scale! I hope there wasn't too much damage

up North.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Sounds like the center of the earthquake was in Keeseville, NY which is 10

miles or so from Plattsburg. That's where my ex-husband is from and it's an

extremely small town. They've got road damage but that's the worst of it I

think. Just a little excitement on a dreary Saturday morning in Central New

York! :-)
