Re Christmas/holidays

I remind myself how much more appreciated a gift or card is when it ISN'T a

holiday or a birthday, when it clearly isn't spurred by social tradition,

Yeah ....so I`ve heard....Sjogrens Syndrome is characterized by... dry

eyes, dry mouth,

fatigue and aching, painful joints.... some of the same symptoms as

AIH... it also can cause dryness in ears , nasal tract, digestive tract,

and vagina....

I perfer to keep my different diseases to a minimum so I won`t look to

find if this is another one I may have.... How do they treat this

disease anyway Joanne? Ginger? Andi? anyone..?

Isn`t ayurvedic herbs connected to some kind of Indian

mysticism....Ayurveda... what specific herb is used for liver disease

(AIH) in ayrvedic holisticism... milk thistle? Or am I confused as usual

(Karishma)?

Karishma... Terrific.... I wished I hadn`t asked.. I love tomatoes (or

is it tomatos... wheres Dan Quayle when you need him?) and I love red

meat.... it was very tough avoiding red meat when I was encephalopathic

(is that a word?) and some times I wasn`t too successful. Is 58 too old

to start such a regime? And do you have an ayurveda master or sensai or

teacher of some sort. What is your age?

Do you live in India? My gastroenteroligist is from India --Dr. Ram

When I had end stage cirrhosis.... i had encephalopathy (a rather

unfortunate and nasty symptom of advanced liver disease)

besides taking a vile medicine called lactulose... i was on a very low

protien diet that precluded red meat

and such...

Hi Roy,

I used ginger because it is a great herb used for many ailments here in the

Philippines. It is a good anti-microbial, and is also known to " sooth " the

stomach or bowels, so I tried it in my colemas. I made it by chopping up

fresh ginger root, about 50 grams or so, and then add it to about 4 cups of

boiling water and let sit for about 20 minutes.

,

What would the ginger do in regards to hormones.

Increase estrogen or progesterone?

Thanks, Barbara. I'm going to try it. The enzyme sounds best to me as the

straight up ginger might intensify hot flashes. emily

Hi Ginger: My name is Genny and I have belonged to this group for about three years. I also am in Florida, about 45 minutes from Disney World in a small town Haines City.

I get the group in digest form because I no longer can keep up with all the posts but I try to look in at times to see how everyone is.

My daughter Jodi who is now 30 years old is the one that has AIH. She and I did a living donor transplant two years ago in Miami where Patty lives. As a matter of fact I met Patty as she was kind enough to come see me in the hospital. Jodi was still in ICU at the time so she was unable to meet the Patty she had heard so much about.

If you would like to email me direct please do so. It would be easier for me, just put from Ginger in ville and I will know who you are. I'm very careful about opening mail that I don't know who sent it.

Would enjoy talking to you. Welcome to the group by the way. You will learn a lot here and make everlasting relationships. Tell me about your experiences with AIH so far.

Take care and God bless.

I've not tried " brined ginger " . If I want to keep it for a long time I

submerse it in vodka. I also have a quart thinly sliced in

rice vinegar, which is an ubiquitous Japanese condiment (but

mine lacks the red food coloring and MSG).

I've also used ginger in kimchi, but I have to say the

ginger doesn't change much (nor does the garlic). It

adds flavor to the cabbage though.

@@@@@@@@@@@@

Heidi,

Did you make that ginger pickle yourself? I always wonder how they

get those thin slices for such an uncooperative starting material

like ginger root. I've made ginger pickles (and 50/50 ginger/garlic

pickles) just by grating with a food processor and putting in whey.

Incredible stuff, a permanent fixture in my diet for sure. In fact,

that and pickled whole garlic cloves were the only success stories

out of the dozen or so varieties I tried in my first-ever batch of lf

veggies a bit over a year ago.

An array of homemade pungent pickles in the fridge at all times--

garlic, ginger, horseradish, etc--now that's good livin'...
