Guest guest
I have no idea where this came from but it is choking out my whole flower bed. I do not know how to get rid of it short of the bad stuff. Re: Can anyone identify this plant? It's a buttercup. We have tried, unsuccessfully for many years to rid our yard of this sweet little pest. Shari
Guest guest
Pull it out, or douse it with vinegar, but vinegar will kill a lot of other stuff, too. ~Katy Sheep to the right; His Lamb “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength" Isa 30:15 http://orchardhouseheirlooms.com/product_info.php/cPath/157_163/products_id/199 survival seeds Christian-homesteaders/?yguid=227010598 biblical survival -- Re: Can anyone identify this plant? Guest guest
I am in KY I am pretty sure this is Buttercup - flower has 5 heart shaped petals. At first I thought they were kinda pretty - early spring but now they are not so pretty. I have never seen anything grown so fast and be so aggressive. I cannot figure out where it came from either. I sure did not plant it and I have looked around and do not see it anywhere else except my one and only flower bed. So frustrating here I have so many weeds that I cannot grown anything. Guest guest
According to my gardening group and the images in Google, buttercups have lots of variety and some are more invasive than others. I remember seeing lots of buttercups in Kentucky when I lived there, they were the three petal ones, but with all the traveling plants and animals have been doing in the last 5 decades since I was there, there might be some varieties introduced there that have become truly invasive due to lack of natural enemies. But it's pretty certain the species is Ranunculus. Guest guest
If we were to pull it all out it would take us years! It has invaded the yard and over the years we've pulled and pulled and pulled. This year we are resorting to "the dark side". Breaks my heart, but if it goes any further it will be in the vegetable garden and I cannot stand to have it there! Guest guest
I've grown Ranunculus before and they look nothing like the buttercups we have. The butters are very small and close to the ground where as the Ranuns are very large and over 2 feet tall. At least around here. Guest guest
I can feel your pain, we have multitudes of 'poke' salad- it's bent on world domination. One of my neighbors commented on it a few years ago, I should have dug it all up then, now we've got it everywhere. Guest guest
I think it's of the Ranunculus family. This is what the experts are saying, I gotta say these folks know a lot more than I do on this stuff. They say lots of buttercups have differing numbers of petals, but they are all of the Ranunculus family, Here are some images off of Google: Buttercup flowers, Ranunculus 468 × 312 - 18k - JPGHickerphoto.comFind similar images of Buttercup - Flowers 500 × 356 - 28k - JPGPublic-domain-photos.comFind similar images of a wild buttercup flower400 × 349 - 19k - JPGPoppular.blogspot.com Find similar images Close up of buttercup flowers.562 × 575 - 112k - JPGMicroscopy-UK.org.UK Buttercup.450 × 438 - 70k - JPG Wiseacre-gardens.comFind similar images yellow buttercup flower800 × 600 - 54k - JPGFree-cute-backgrounds.comFind similar images Buttercup Flower Shop Image 600 × 800 - 63k - JPGWeblo.comFind similar images "buttercup flower" (a500 × 487 - 63k - JPGFlickr.com Yet, I hold out for Buttercups 480 × 480 - 55k - JPG annhayes.com ~Katy Sheep to the right; His Lamb “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength" Isa 30:15 http://orchardhouseheirlooms.com/product_info.php/cPath/157_163/products_id/199 survival seeds Christian-homesteaders/?yguid=227010598 biblical survival -- Re: Can anyone identify this plant? Guest guest
That is not what I have here. Petals are different. I will try to take a pic of the leaves too - they are different than these.
