EWE! I don't even want to think of that. I buy nearly everything I own second hand but it's washed before I wear it. I just can't see wasting $$ on new clothes.

I'd wear gently used clothes if I liked them enough. I make a habit to

donate my gently used clothes to AmVets and the Salvation Army and they seem

to disappear fast off their shelves. I know a lot of people who just don't

have the money for new clothes and they go to places like these and to Free

Cycle and get some really nice clothes for either free or for very little

money at all. There was a time when I was on Public Assistance about 20

years ago and buying used clothes from places like that were a real help for

myself and my infant son. It really helped us to get by until I was

finished with school and got a good job. I just gave them a good washing

once or twice and they were good to go. That's the main reason I like to

contribute to places like that now. I find it's a nice way to give back.

Yeah, and they're always so happy to get nice things. I used to work for a nursing agency that did teaching in the hospitals, so we really had to dress professionally and that costs a bit of money. I can't fit into those suites anymore since I can't move like I did before my injury. (I put some weight on due to lack of mobility) So I took them to these places and boy were they happy. I feel good knowing that the money I spent on these really nice clothes isn't going to waste. Someone is getting good use from them.

Oh I remember going through that when I was growing up. There was a four year difference between my next older sister and me. I never got to wear any of her clothes for the same reason. I used to wear a uniform for school. (Catholic school) and so my mother would just buy one that was about two full sizes bigger than I needed and let down the hem as I grew and it lasted me all the years of grammar school. We did the same thing in High School too. Boy oh boy did my mom ever save money on school clothes. LOL!!!

I buy almost all my clothes at second hand stores! Especially the Goodwill we have in town. Everything is cleaned by them before going on the rack so there's no "funky" smell to the building when you walk in.

Underwear and shoes are about the only things I buy new.

Well, I do buy fabric and make some things I wear. Guess that would make them new, but in a different way. Maybe?

This is so true, I lost my real sense of smell for a year and could only smell the chemicals that went into making the scents, everything smelled like chemicals, hairspray, shampoo, perfume, laundry soap. It's starting to fade now, Of course it's all based on petroleum.

enough. For the hand washables I just wash them by hand and they pretty

Well, I'm not grossly overweight, but I certainly stand to lose a few

pounds. If I were moving like I used to be able to it would come off

easily. Would you be willing to provide the amounts that the alternative

medicine folks suggest? Being a nurse I really am only familiar with the

regular ones. I once tried the (now don't come running at me with your

clubs everyone) Nutri-System diet that gave you Weekends Off. I had to stop

it because I just couldn't stomach the food. the chicken with dumplings

looked like a beige bowl of slime, and it felt like it going down too. I

barely made it to the toilet before I brought it up. It was pretty much the

same with all the other food. However, they did include one really good

thing in the package. It was a really nice booklet for the Weekends Off

part. It had all the different foods and what category they were in and how

much you were able to eat in one day. So when I threw away the Nutri System

food I kept that little book and I was able to eat normal food and still

lose weight. That's the main reason I've been able to keep myself from

turning into a blimp. The bad thing is.........I lost the booklet. I

didn't know it by heart yet and so now I'm thinking of calling them back

(even though I canceled the program) and asking them if they would send me

another one. Not sure if they'll do that or not though. I take a multiple

vit. everyday that meant for women and I try to eat as best as I can. So

far I'm maintaining. Well, my clothes, both used and new, are still

fitting.

Folic Acid 800mcg 3 a day

Zinc Gluconate 50mg 1 a day

Selenium 400mcg 1 a day

I also use turmeric, parsley and chives in most of my cooking. I do not

measure the amounts, but figure a 1/2 to one teaspoon each, to a pot meal.

One other thing. That zinc is 50mg max. Currently, I am using magnesium

that has zinc added. So I am not taking additional zinc at this time,

except with the magnesium.
