Hi Sheri, I'm so sorry that I made you feel like you had to be on the defensive. I certainly didn't mean to do that. I was just stating that the cost of the rebounder is too high for me. I'm alone with a house payment but thankfully, my old klunker car is paid for. There are a lot of things I can't afford to have or to do and yes, I love freecycle. Perhaps this is not a good place for me.

Well, we didn't have health insurance for over 25 years so we bought a rebounder about 15 years ago and use it faithfully. I figure the price of one divided by 15 works out to be affordable and we saved all that insurance money! My husband is going to be 66 in a couple weeks and I am 60, neither one of us have seen an allopathic doctor in 26 years and neither one of us takes any medications whatsoever. I have had a job with a school district for about five years and have never once used my insurance.

You're going to pay for it one way or another and I'd rather pay for a rebounder and organic food than with my health and pay money to a health care system I don't trust or believe works.

So I guess you'd freak if I told you I paid over $300 for a blender. Have used it also for over 15 years with no problems and I'm talking probably an average of everyday seeing as when the kids were here it got used 3 - 4 times a day making smoothies with NO dairy products. Now I have slim adult children who know the importance of staying away from sodas, meat, and processed foods.

When it comes to my health I don't scrimp on the money. I drive a 14 year old car that is paid for and I shop at Goodwill for my clothes. We live in a 900 square foot house and raised two kids here. We grow a lot of our own food and use a greenhouse I got off FreeCycle ($2,500 greenhouse for free) to grow microgreens in the winter. Best bang for your buck in the food department!

You can also go on FreeCycle and Craig's list and possibly find a used rebounder. It is the only exercise that flushes the lymph system and so very easy to do.

Sorry, I'll climb down off my soap box now. I didn't mean to get so preachy or come across bitchy, I just wanted to point out that what we perceive as being expensive really isn't when you think about the cost of UNhealth.

Oh ! I did not mean to chase you away!!! I just get a little goofy when it comes to health and money. It shouldn't cost us anything to be healthy! As I stated it had nothing to do with you, it's what I believe.

Please stay, you don't need to leave because of what I posted. Just ignore me :-). Besides I have some pretty radical ideas that most people don't like to read so I don't post here as much as I used to.

I was just getting to know you and I love your sense of humor. Stay and let us help you along your journey. When you come here to read take what you like and leave the rest.

Don't quit before the miracle.............Shari

Don't worry Shari, I'm not going any where. I threatened just to see if you cared. Awwww, you cared. Thank you, I'll stay. LOL Actually, I have been at work all day cooking for my residents and when I got home, there was a nice email from Katy. I'll try to stop being so sensitive.

I get a little testy when people act like everyone can afford the same things. It just isn't so even though, I would love to be able to. At any rate, I'm here to see what ideas the members have that will help me get rid of all crap that I don't want--I'm still talking about my body so, leave my house alone. <grin>

Teeheehee we are so much alike if you really look at our emails. You get the same way I do only on a different subject. I understand $$ contraints, believe me I have them! I just looked at my bank account and it ain't pretty and I've got TWO more weeks before pay day!! Might not be eating or driving the last week of July. Oh well I've been saying I wanted to fast some time this summer............

You said you were cooking for the residents, where do you work? I know that I find it extremely hard to make good food choices during my work hours. I work at a technical high school (Sept. - June) and specifically in the Culinary Arts Department. I am the Chef Assistant to a French gourmet trained chef and some of the things she teaches the kids should be outlawed! I'm talking HIGH FAT and HIGH SUGAR. Her favorite line in the " and " movie was "ahhhh, buttah"! We go round and round about her menu choices, but we are teaching the kids a trade and her food is what the public wants. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I like my job and being around the kids, but I have no willpower when the restaurant is open. Last year my downfall was her caramel ice cream made from scratch, yes even the caramel. She teaches from the ground up with these kids.

Speaking of houses, one of my goals is to de-clutter my sewing room this summer and today I was supposed to be working in there so I'm going back in my den now!

Glad you're sticking around -- Shari

Hey Sheri, TWO WEEKS TIL PAYDAY !!! Bless your heart, Honey. Would you like to borrow a couple dollars, some tomatoes and a squash? Be good and I throw in some home grown onions. LOL

I work in an assisted living facility. We just opened last Nov. We have 32 units, 8 of which are doubles so we couldn't have 40 residents. 22 right now with 5 more coming soon. I use to cook at a 120 resident nursing home so this is a breeze and I get to use my own recipes and any others that I want to use. We try hard for healthy foods and the residents love it. This morning I made whole wheat breat that was delicious to go with the baked chicken, broccoli, corn with lemon cake for desert, and tonight, they are having fruit plates, cabbage and apple salad and corn bread but I don't know what their desert is. I don't work tonight but I'll be back in the morning. I want to get some fresh herbs into the facility as whe have a variety of ailments that I believe could be better with help.

Wow, what a change from the usual home for retired with mushy over cooked canned food. Can I move in there when I cannot garden and cook anymore?

You sure can Katy, and it's only a little over $3,000 a month and guess what? You get me to cook for you. lol We have some raised garden beds out back that the residents love to work in. One of the residents picked two tomatoes and took them to his room to save for his favorite CNA. It was really cute. The residents snapped half runner beans and we put them in the freezer.

My work place is really into healty everything so maybe my joining this group was a blessing more than I realized. Perhaps we can work on something for my 4 diabetics that does NOT have aspertame in it. We have splenda but personally, I don't care much for that but for them, it's better than nothing---I think, but the jury is still out on that.

Isn't splenda 'just like sugar" otherwise known as Killer white? I don't know but someone once crowed to me, "Splenda is fine....it's just like Sugar"

'she' being a diabetic who takes so many drugs she is always sick. Raw honey is so much better for us. Oops soapboxy.
