Guest guest
I bought one when it first came out. Big mistake. One of the " special " bulbs didn't work; the company replaced it (note: the bulbs are standard compact flourescents with non-standard bases). The timer malfunctioned after a week and would turn on/off at all hours. The greens did not grow any faster than from soil and, after maturing, tasted terrible. Stick with sprouts. > >Hi, everyone! > >I am very new to sprouting. Did anybody use Aero Garden? >Any advice? > >Thank you, > > > >
Guest guest
Hi , I have used the AeroGarden for their seeds and not for sprouting. Personally, it does what it says and overall, its a good product. I think it's a little expensive, but still a good product for organic/home gardening. Guest guest
Hi Mark, I'm sorry about your experience with the AeroGarden (no, I don't work for the company). I found the herbs to be very fresh, tasty and plentiful. Other than remembering the tablets and watering, my growing was abundant. I had no issues with the actual mechanism and I like the idea that there are no moving parts, other then the lighting part. Mark wrote: > I bought one when it first came out. Big mistake. Guest guest
Hi ; We have gone back to the same very low tech system that worked for me 40 years ago. Clean hands, clean quart jars and new cheese cloth with each batch. We first tried several different " magic sprouter's " . Always ended up with mold, slime, stink, no matter how much I tried to clean the plastic trays. We even had trouble when using plastic jar strainer's. Guest guest
I tried cheese cloth, and prefer stainless steel screen. It can go through the dishwasher and drains the rinse water a lot faster than cloth. I'm getting the feeling that it will last for years. I am looking for bigger sheets of stainless mesh, to try building racks for sprouts. So far, only very expensive or odd sizes. Any ideas where I can get fine stainless screen-- cheap? Thanks, JD > > > > Hi, everyone! > > > > I am very new to sprouting. Guest guest
Even better than stainless mesh (which have prickly edges and still rust on me sometimes), you can get PLASTIC mesh at craft stores and just cut out the circles. That's what I've used for years. Robyn www.greensmoothiegirl.com > > > > > > Hi, everyone! > > > > > > I am very new to sprouting. Guest guest
Hi Robyn, There's no problem with the plastic leaching into the food? Guest guest
Good question, but the water/sprouts aren't sitting in plastic (like with water and milk bottles, for instance). They're just touching the sprouts for a few seconds as they drain.
