Guest guest
i'm no expert - have only sprouted for about 6 months, but i've had a lot of fun just experimenting... i've found that as long as there is good drainage and reasonable air circulation, which allows you to soak and rinse, just about any container will work... i use mostly mason jars and trays depending on what i'm growing, and have even used an empty CD/DVD spindle container, but the easy sprouters, for me, work best, so i've been using what i have on hand, and when i have a little extra money, i'll buy an easy sprouter or two, until i get as many as i want - it doesn't have to be complicated or expensive... just remember excess water is evil, try to get as much water out as possible between rinses, and you'll have good sprouts - i sincerely hope that helps, others may have more helpful info, but that's what works for me From: misslavande <misslavande@...> Subject: still shopping Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2008, 4:37 AM I have a question so let's say I want to sprout green peas and snow peas or speckled peas,I guess they all will go together ?, radishes, maybe they will go with broccoli, and then buckwheat and some beans like garbanzo and mung beans together also so... do i need an easy sprouter for each category? I guess there is no way around it? how many sprouters do you guys have? and then, as I harvest, I need another set of sprouters to be on my way when this one is ready and not wait another week to get my food another question that easy sprouter, how much spout one can grow in it? is there a better one? this whole thing is more complicated than I thought. I have been at it for several days already, and still do not know what to buy to get me started and my theoritical budget keeps growing . I wish I could go to the store! Guest guest
Hi, you can do the peas all together, but each has its own flavor and I prefer them separate. The snow pea is my favorite. Radish, broccoli, alfalfa, clover, canola, small seeds like these make a great salad mix. Beans can be done together for a soup mix. Mung beans should be sprouted separately, because I think they taste best when grown in the dark. I grown them in the dark in a mason jar for 4 or 5 days and then harvest. The taste is a little different if the first leaves turn green. You never see them in an Asia market with any green on them. As for me, for everyday sprouting, I have my FreshLife and two EastSprouts. Plus two mason jars for mung. I have done mung in the EastSprouter and they come out nice. In the jars they tend to twist around each other, which doesn't bother me, but my wife doesn't like the roots. So I have to cut those off for her when she's looking. When you have to pull them apart to cut off the roots, its a little time consuming. No matter which device you use, you will never get you mung sprouts to look as good as those in the store, because the store bought ones are grown hydroponically. ew still shopping Date: Wed, 08 Oct 2008 04:37:30 -0000 I have a question so let's say I want to sprout green peas and snow peas or speckled peas,I guess they all will go together ?, radishes, maybe they will go with broccoli, and then buckwheat and some beans like garbanzo and mung beans together also so... do i need an easy sprouter for each category?
