Hi Sproutpeople,

We are working hard on a new website - with a great custom built shopping cart.

This has been months in the works and will hopefully be done by late winter -

but the

work is enormous, so only time will tell. We're actually hiring professionals

this time

(though we 2 are still responsible for all the content (we've taken thousands of

pictures of

every seed we sell - at every 12-24 hours of growth, and we're re-working our

instructions to be clearer, and adding further detail) and and aesthetic

decisions), so we

look forward to a great new web home.

My question is this: As you know, we do not like automatic sprouters. We've

bought and

tried several over the years (we even have a prototype of the Fresh Life (the

man who

invented it approached us in 1997 or 98 in hopes that we would be his importer),

but have

always found them inferior to manual sprouters. But, as we will be adding a few

products

it has occurred to us that we might consider an automatic sprouter - if we can

be

convinced that people like them. Which - if any - do you like? How long have

you had it?

Do you use it regularly? Have you sprouted with manual sprouting devices? What

can you

tell us about cleaning them (that is a sticking point for us as we always found

the clean-up

to take so long that any time saved while growing was used up in cleaning)? Can

you grow

everything in it or just some things - and what grows best? Anything else?

While we're asking, is there any other products you think we should offer? We

expect to

add a dehydrator, a blender and maybe an additional juicer or two, but we're

open to

suggestions. We have no intention of becoming a super-store. We will remain

specific to

sprouts, grass and greens. But, if there is anything you think we should offer,

please tell

us here.

We plan to add additional micro-greens seeds in time, and we're going to offer

seed refills

for our kits. We have a couple new mixes too, but please tell us if there is

something you

want us to carry. We'll happily consider it.

Lastly, though I think we have this covered, if there are any site features you

desire, please

share them. We will have customer accounts so you will be able to save favorite

items to a

list, and you'll have an online order history - along with package tracking (for

UPS at least).

Oh - one more thing - we'll have a forum on our site - so this group may be

replaced by

that. We will leave this running as long as people use it of course, but we

like the idea of

having no advertising and less difficulty keeping the spammers out.

This has been a long time coming. Our current site has been up since 2001 and

it took

me (Gil) 2 years to build it. It is antique by internet standards.

I've got to get back to work on the new site map and pictures.

Be well.

Happy Sprouting!

Gil & Lori, I was waiting to see how the group responded to this before

I did. I have not seen any responses. Perhaps they sent them to you

direct. I have the FreshLife sprouter. I woman in my garden club turned

me on to it. I love it. It takes very little time to change the water and

rinse out the machine once daily. Fortunately, I live near the current

distributer and one of their employees lives near me. She came to my home

and showed me tricks and gave me better info than that that comes with

the machine. After harvesting the batch, it takes about ten minutes to

thoroughly clean the machine with soap and water. I've had it for three

years. Right now I am only sprouting for the wife and I, so I only use

EasySprout, which by the way is a great device. The FreshLife is for

large batches or if I going out to talk sprouts. I have not found

anything that can't be grown in it, but I prefer to do beans and lentils

by other methods. Alfalfa, broccoli, peas, sunflowers, and mung beans do

really well. With the water always spraying over the sprouts, its much

like hydroponics without the chemicals.

I don't juice. I have a dehydrator, but rarely use it. I can and freeze

produce from my garden that cannot be grown year round. I am in zone 9b,

so I can have a garden going most of the year.

I started with mason jars as does most people. I bought a biostack. It

never really did a good job. There were certain seeds that could not be

sprouted in it. Also, the roots grow into the drain holes and the water

backs up. If you don't watch it, the sprout go bed from sitting in water.

I have sprouters that I made, but don't use often. They are mostly for

show and tell and my sprout talks.

I like your website. I wish more of the group would check out all the

great stuff you have in there and tell their friends about sprouting and

the website. You've put a lot of work into it and there is nothing else

out there that compares.

Keep up the good work.

Hi EW!

Thank you!!!

No one else has responded to that post =:-(

I would like to like FreshLife - We have a prototype of that sprouter. The man

who made it

wanted us to be his importer back in 1998 I think it was. He made quite an

effort to get it

to us... very nice man. But we had to pass. It's really cool as far as

automatic sprouters

go, but we always find our manual methods produce superior crops - and the time

it takes

to thoroughly clean it - like all auto sprouters we've tried - negates any time

saved on the

sprouting end. BUT - please pass on (if you don't mind) - either here or via

e-mail - any

tips that you have, and I'll gladly get mine out and try it again. I don't even

have

instructions as mine is a prototype, so perhaps I've been missing something(s)

in my

efforts.

I'd love to see pics of your home-made sprouters. I love what people come up

with!

I have to get back to work, so I'll stop here.

Be well and happy, and thank you again for being such a profoundly helpful group

member.
