I live in La Puente, CA. which is about 35 miles east of LA. I am in the

San Valley. Zone 9b. I do not have a large yard, but I have no

lawn because you can't eat grass. I have several raised beds. I grow

things that a lot of people have never heard of.

I have to tell you that they are dwarf trees and I missed counted. I

forgot to add the fig tree and a tangerine. Those eleven a just

edible

fruit. I also have two lemons and a lime. All dwarf. I had an apple

tree

that just got too old. In the same area where a full sized apple tree

stood is now four stone fruits and a lemon. Its a concept the Master

Gardeners teach called, 'Backyard Orchard'.

Go to davewilson.com and on the right of the screen you can click on

pictures and the concept of a home orchard. They probably have a salesman

in your area that will be doing talks at a local nursery in the spring.

I've wanted to have a backyard orchard ever since I first started

learning about permaculture, back in my twenties. It's just taken me

a

long time to get to a point in my life where I can have a yard, let

alone an orchard. Sometimes it's hard not to get frustrated about

being such a late bloomer. At least I know I'll *really* appreciate

the things I've wanted all my life when I finally do earn them.

Which won't do me much good because I'm still at least five years away

from owning my own yard. But thanks! I'll watch for it when I finally

figure out where I'm moving to (depends on who hires me.) There's very

little chance they'd come here because this area is usually too small

to be included on tour circuits.

Thank you my dear. And may I say the same about you!!!

When I first entered the ACC0RD clinical trials, 4 years ago, my a1c was 9.5.

It is now at 6 (for quite some time now).

I am well on my way. I believe I can beat this thing.

All the best, melody

Wow, that's a lot!

It's so great that it's been working for you!

I don't know what my B-12 levels are because my coverage won't pay for

the test unless I have neuropathy but I think I may be able to

convince my doctor to test me when I go back for my next A1c because

she knows I've been eating a vegan diet for a full year now and I

think she can use that to get the test covered for nutritional caution

reasons. I have been very curious to know what my levels are.

And that's no small thing; diabetes can get EXPENSIVE!

That totally rocks! You know, Melody, you are a great role model for

taking charge of your health.

Hey Sparrow,

What about Almond Butter, I make our own in my food processor.  I can not eat

Peanut Butter but I can eat Almond Butter.  It is bland, I add Honey but I would

think that Agave Nectar would be good also.

I realize that, but I don't eat peanuts, margarine or bread because

I'm recovering from diabetes.

If it doesn't have a negative impact on your health, go for it! It's

good stuff. I can't eat it, myself.

I can't do agave nectar because it's almost pure fructose without any

of the fiber in whole fruit. Fructose doesn't send blood sugar up but

it does send insulin levels through the roof for me, which is just as

bad, maybe worse. Agave nectar puts a big strain on both my liver

(that's where fructose is processed) and my pancreas (overtaxing the

insulin production will eventually wear the pancreas out.)

Some agave nectar is really bad stuff and some is really good stuff.

It all depends on how it's made. Be judicious who you buy it from.

Hey Sparrow,

I get Organic Raw Light Agave Nectar.  I watch how much Nut products I eat.

JMostly just trying to eat healthier, however I do have several medical

conditions that I am expecting improvement in symptoms and overall health as I

eat better and better.  I have my first order of seeds placed and they are on

their way.  I am looking forward to being able to Sprout in the New Year.  I

expect that Sprouting is going to make a big difference in my families health.

Hi everyone,

Vitacost.com also has the FreshLife sprouter for 78.99. It will tell

you that the price is too low to show but will give you the price

after adding it to the cart. That's where I purchased mine and so far

I love it.

Thanks,
