I use more water to cook lentils than to sprout them. I'm happy with that.

I don't see a huge water useage -- no more than washing/prepping other

veges. I use easy sprouters. Twice a day I fill the sprouter with

water, swish the seeds around, then let drain -- and run a bit of

water in the sprouter while it is draining to make sure they sprouts

are well rinsed. Only takes a couple of minutes.

No. It seems so silly to me, to even ask that question. Considering

that we take showers, wash clothes, with double rinse, wash dishes in

a dishwasher, eventually some people wash their car, some people have

swimming pool and God knows what else, etc... and we drink water and

cook every day. As an example, if you have a pet, you use more water

to maintain your dog or cat than you do growing sprout. If you are

worried about water, get rid of the pet. I mean,we use water all day

long, the amount used to sprout, in ratio to the benefit of sprouting

, and the quality of the food, is minimal.

and do you think the food we buy is grown without water?

I do not fill the easy sprouter with water, just enough to rinse, and

someone was mentioning reusing the same water to rinse everything,

which I started to do, and it works just fine.

relax, folks, the world is not coming to an end, contrary to what the

media wants you to believe

Thanks ew and thanks for the recommendation of the FreshLife. I did have

to send mine back to have the motor and impeller replaced. Must have

gotten a lemon, but turn around time was good. In the meantime, I just

rinsed manually 3 times a day like I would for a manual sprouter using a

sprayer attached to the faucet. City water, but it worked fine. I make a

mix of alfalfa, clover, broccoli, cabbage, mustard, radish, with a just

little arugula and cress mixed in. I happened to have an old spice

bottle stand with empty bottles. I put each seed type in a different

bottle and sprinkle the seeds on the trays. Makes for even distribution.

It turns out great! Takes about 6 days. Yummmmmmmmy.

You're making me hungry. Thanks for the bottle trick. I have been trying

to put mine in with a spoon and being very clumsy about it.
