Guest guest
I'd be fit to be tied! I'm not Greg, but insecticide makes me so sick I can't walk straight for two days. Try airing it out and staying away from home for a while. Take extra anti-oxidants, When they did our house they did do the inside of the garage but just drilled down outside the house to put out poisons. Nothing was in the air, and remarkably I did not get sick from it. I can't grow close to the house, I had to move the blueberries. ~Katy Sheep to the right; His Lamb “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength" Isa 30:15 http://www.orchardhouseheirlooms.net/ survival seeds Christian-homesteaders/ biblical survival -- NOW what do I do??? Hey, Gang -Okay, I wrote asking about DE and termites a few weeks ago. Well, it came down to the DH hiring Truly Nolen to come out and toxify. Great. Except *I* thought the spraying and laying down of poison was going to occur OUTSIDE. Nope. He came in to spray everywhere the plumbing penetrates the walls. How do I minimize this for me and mine?? Guest guest
Well, I suppose I was just venting. There is nothing TO be done. Whatever they sprayed inside was aimed into the interior of the walls, and the equivalent of a needle was used. There is no odor. And it's not like I can take my cats and dogs to the mall, anyway!! (pity, that. I might actually enjoy going there if I could take them).<shrug> Nobody gets out alive, anyway.Ev"A hundred million miracles are happening every day!"I'd be fit to be tied! My dog and I were out for the morning and came home to find our basement had been sprayed. I had an instant headache and he was sneezing. I was livid! We were both instantly ill, of course we were the only two that could “smell” it and I was told, it is harmless, it is non toxic. Well, it sure was toxic to us. We had to go outside for the rest of the day, when it was still as strong as it was. It did get better in a day or two, but the headache did not go away as quickly and I was concerned for my dog as he was 14 at the time. Guest guest
Hi , I'm so sorry they did that. Personally, I would not have let them in to spray anything reguardless of how safe they say it is. I have large expensive parrots and small parrots and a dog, not to mention myself. Birds don't have lungs like we do, they have air sacks with no filtering ability as we do so anything like that would kill them. I don't even use Teflon anything because I figure if it's going to kill them, it's not good for me. I'm not starting any discussion about pros and cons of Teflon and will not participate in one. (been there, done that). Did they ask your permission to come in and spray? I see you got good info about what to do but next time, don't call that company and do tell them why you are not using them again. Guest guest
What about an air cleaner/filter or an ozone machine? We use those for extreme odors and mold spores in our carpet restoration business. Shari
Guest guest
Wood touching the ground is the easiest way termites get in, but not having wood touching the ground won't stop them. They construct mud tunnels up the sides of concrete, block or brick foundations and move into the house via the tunnels. On 8/31/2010 7:41 PM, Dougherty wrote: Hi , I'm so sorry they did that. Guest guest
So, I guess we need to keep our eyes peeled for the mud tunels and take them down? Guest guest
Hi , I'm so sorry they did that. ~~~~Yeah, me, too. Personally, I would not have let them in to spray anything regardless of how safe they say it is. ~~~~On my own, neither would I have. But the DH also has a vote, and the truth is, I'm going to allow myself the luxury of assuming all will be well, since I have very definite views about putting too much energy into something I DON'T want!ly, I'm rather embarrassed that I wrote in the first place. It was reactionary and emotional, and nothing more. Certainly nothing constructive. Is your house built in such a way that you can eliminate any wood touching your house and the ground? ~~~~~They don't need the wood to touch the ground. They can come up through minute cracks in the foundation - which MOST structures will have.<shrug> What's done is done. Guest guest
Thanks, Suzi!I have to laugh: first of all, this is New Mexico in August! Yeppers, my windows are ALL open! Have been since May, will be through most of October...And - I've been cleaning with vinegar and baking soda for 7 years or so!Anyway, like I posted yesterday, there really wasn't any odor from it - I just hadn't expected it to come INSIDE the house. Fuzzed me somewhat. But it isn't like he went around the whole house doing the baseboards or anything.I'm just going to have to assume that The Universe loves me, and my family and I are safe.Ev"A hundred million miracles are happening every day!" definitely open up house.. cleaning using acv is good. take a small pan and boil some water.. turn it off ..add a few drops of lavendar or other essential oil to scent thru the house is another thing. Guest guest
Sorry Ev, i forget where everyone is.. or if you're closed up with ac... anyway the essential oils are really great for getting "purifying" fumes, scents, smells into the house.
