Yeah, that's who invited me. A guy named Zac . Who is this person? It

seemed like a honest invite from a person who likes to sprout.

And I just got a welcome from the Grouply thing. Oh my god, what have I

started??

lol

My understanding is that it's supposed to be a keen way to lay out

your (and maybe your message groups from other servers as

well? Not sure.) with everything in one location and easy to access.

Some of the groups I'm on (mostly knitters' groups) will not allow

grouply members. They can tell, because one of the first things

grouply does is to unsub you from all your lists and resub you as

username@.... So the list owner watches for grouply joins and

deletes them from the list. I guess that makes the convenience of

grouply kind of counterproductive when some lists won't let you on

with it.

And that's one of the big reasons why I haven't gone to check it out,

by the way. To unsub and resub you like that, it needs your

password. I don't give that out, so no grouply for me.

Its true function is to sell your address to spamers. There is a lot of money

made that way. You subscribe to a magazine and they sell your address to a lot

of other magazines. I subscribed to a gardening magazine once and started

getting seed catalogs from companies I never heard of. Even from England, Canada

and other countries.

I agree!! I am amazed at the sites that ask for that information, like

grouply and facebook. Why in the world would anyone give out that info? I

can't imagine giving any site free reign with your email account and address

book. Just silly.

It seems that he's targeting Sproutpeople. In the bottom of Zac 's

email to me , it offered an option to block any mail from grouply. I clicked

on that option. than it warns you that " you are not done yet " , you will be

receiving an email from Grouply and you must click on that email if you

DON'T WANT TO RECEIVE any more friendship requests from anyone in Grouply.

I did that to.

Good Lord.

I may be mistaken here, but someone on another list I am on posted that thru

grouply it can automatically email everyone in your addy book, making it look

like it came from you.  In fact the moderator of this group will not allow

grouply type email addresses.  Not sure how it works but I did join at one time

and it seemed like I started getting lots of Spam right after that.
