Guest guest
I think I mentioned this before, but we do a alfalfa, broccoli, cabbage, radish, clover, with just a bit of arugula and cress. Very Tasty. Diane
Guest guest
Cabbage huh? Wouldn't have thought of cabbage seeds, what do they taste like? Considering the taste of broccoli and radish sprouts I'm assuming they taste like cabbage, is that correct. I'd really like to try arugula and cress but the store where I buy my seeds doesn't carry those; I haven't ordered them online yet. I love the clover and tend to eat more of that. I should mix a little broccoli and radish in with that - they are a little stout for me alone :-) I was astounded at how spicy the radish sprouts were! Guest guest
I get all my seeds, lentils, nuts from Sproutpeople.com. I ordered arugula and cress a lonnnnnnng time ago, probably a year or more ago and grew it on baby blanket. I had some successful crops but all in all it was difficult for me to grow. It could be because we are in Arizona and it gets very hot here. I don't keep the apt that cool, so sprouting was always a challenge when using the manual sprouters. I think Gil at .com has some hints on growing these two seeds, like make sure there is space around each seed because the seeds have a gooey coating when they gets wet, like chia seeds. So now, instead I just add a few seeds, maybe 4-5 seeds to each quarter of the tray of the Freshlife. Since I use a spice bottle with little holes, this is easy to do. They do grow this way, as I have seen them in the zesty mix I have been doing. You might also try Sproutpeople's mixes. I think they have a spicy seed mix. I think I had to order a pound of arugula and cress, which is alot when I only add a small amount to each quarter tray. Maybe they will sell them in smaller sizes to try. I think I remember reading that Gil was adding some to his mixes, but better check on that. I know what you mean about radish being hot. That is how I ended up doing a mix. My husband likes the radish sprouts by the handful, but they are too hot for me. I just tasted the cabbage sprout and it is a very very light cabbage taste. This one was the red cabbage I think. I used to have to grow cabbage and broccoli on baby blanket to get a good crop, but with the FreshLife Sprouter I don't have to use anything except the regular Freshlife trays. We will see how this summer goes using the Freshlife. Maybe because it rinses the sprouts so often it might keeps them cool enough. Good luck and happy sprouting.
