Guest guest
You need to give the charcoal 2 hours after the antifungal - no sooner. aaron2kristie <aaron2kristie@...> wrote: Hi all. Guest guest
Other parents on a listserv I belong too say no sooner than 30 minutes after a supplement..including anti fungals (per Dr Shaw and his book). Do you know of a reason to wait the two hours? Thank you for answering! Kristie Aidan 3.

Give it about 30-45 minutes after your yeast killer, but not within 1-1/2 or 2 hours of other meds, supplements, etc. Dana
Guest guest
Wyndie, We've used act. charcoal for several years. Our daughter reacts to many food products with spacey, nasty, aggressive behavior that sometimes leads to seizures. She's old enough to plug machines and get things on her own. I usually use it in combination with alka seltzer gold when I see the behavior pattern. Usually, I give 1 tab alka seltzer gold with 4 caps of activated charcoal. If things are still 8-9[out of 10] on a behavior scale in 20 minutes, I repeat same dose. This is for 120# person. I used to give just 1-2 charcoal but figured out if they could give a big glass of the stuff in the ER for overdoses, that 3-4 caps at a time was pretty minimal. It's amazing how this will calm things down. By 30-40 minutes after first dose things are almost always back to a tolerable level. For our daughter, soaking in a epsom salt/baking soda bath will also be a good adjunct to this charcoal routine. The charcoal does absorb anything in it's path so supps need to be delayed if they're due. I've also seen the charcoal come out in stools as black, pasties. -- In , " anneecbrynn " <anneecbrynn@...> wrote: > > I have only used activated charcoal occasionally. It absorbs things, especially toxins, but also nutrients. Be sure to give it at least 2 hours apart from any supplements. It will also absorb nutrients from foods, so watch for that. Guest guest
Others here probably have more detailed feedback than I can offer but, for us, the DAN says up to five 260mg caps a day for our 40LB twins. We give two caps forty-five minutes after their yeast med then three caps at night before they go to bed (we find they sleep better with it). We just mix it in water and they're used to drinking " charcoal water. Juice probably works as well. It has no taste and no texture. > > My son cant swallow. Guest guest
I am hoping to go to the New York Autism Clinic within the next few weeks with our son. I have been giving him appox. 4 mg of zoloft and he is more aware but still has attention problems. He was taking Strattera but I am scared that it may interfere with zoloft. They do not offer tenex here in Canada. He has been on clonidine (similar to tenex) in the past but it made him sleepy and it wears off easily. He is taking Complete Probiotics (excellent quality!!) and I noticed a lot of die-off symptoms so decided to try activated charcoal (AC) at night. He also gets his zoloft at night. Guest guest
Just keep an eye on things regarding 'die-off symptoms' when starting probiotics. You could attribute a negative reaction as die-off, but some strains of probiotics will actually set off sensory problems and OCD in kids because they may stimulate cytokines that may already be elevated in your kids. OCD and anxiety are what you need to watch for - if you have big increases in this AND is doesn't go away within a 2 week time (average die-off period), then you could actually be stimulating ocd with this. I don't want to discourage using probiotics but this is a potential side effect. It's certainly worth hanging in there for a month to make sure it isn't just die-off, because they really are important. I would bet it is only about 15% of kids who can't tolerate some strains. HTH. Sorry to add any worries to starting those, but they have simply wrecked my world a few times before I figured out the connection, so I don't want others to go too long not knowing the potential. ________________________________ From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Sent: Sun, May 23, 2010 8:38:07 AM Subject: RE: Activated Charcoal  I am hoping to go to the New York Autism Clinic within the next few weeks with our son. Guest guest
, I am also in Canada and have been able to get the probiotic that Dr. G recommends. It is called Kyodophilus. I found it at a quality health/vitamin store and I live in a fairly small town. Dr. G likes this one as it only contains the healthy bacteria naturally found in the intestines. Sometimes we as parents go in to overkill mode and think more is better. That is not true with probiotics. My son has done well on this and Dr. G continues to recommend it to all his patients. It is a good start and will help to prevent a bad reaction to any yeast die off that your boys will go through in the future. Feel free to email me off list if you want any more details or advice from a Canadian perspective! Best of luck! Guest guest
Good point...it is hard to say...with , it has been really hard to see connections of certain things. When he was little (2-5) he would have SEVERE reactions to antibiotics. They made him giddy, aggressive, etc. Now, he doesn’t seem to be bothered by them anymore or show the same reactions. However, he still gets hyper and stimmy with antibiotics. I try to add a probiotics because he gets yeast infections (red penis, burns when he urinates, ring around anus). We had an organic acid test done by Great Plains lab a few years back and they indicated that l. Rhamnosus would be a good strain for him. I now get probiotics from custom probiotics with Rhamnosus included. I would like for someone who knows what is going medically to tell me what to do. I feel like we have been running around in circles for years with restrictive diets, different meds, etc. I am sure it is similar for most of you. I just sometimes need to vent... Guest guest
Activated Charcoal Though food poisoning can strike at any time of year, there are some particular hazards during the warmer months when we eat so many salads and fresh produce (which has become the most common source of food-borne illness) and when higher temperatures bring on spoilage more quickly. Blumenthal said that a helpful treatment for nausea and minor vomiting from suspected food poisoning is pharmaceutical-grade activated charcoal. It neutralizes the toxins in your system by absorbing them so that they’re able to pass through without causing further discomfort. Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms persist for more than several hours, worsen or you have frequent vomiting or diarrhea, or if you experience dizziness, fainting or violent cramping. Activated charcoal is sold in tablet or capsule form at health-food stores -- there’s also a cherry-flavored liquid version that can be a wise medicine cabinet staple for homes with small children. Follow dosing directions on the manufacturer’s label. Suzi List Owner health What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered.
