Okay, I did a bad thing. Many years ago, when I worked as Asst. Manager at Round Table Pizza, I was making the dough. I used a new knife that everybody told me not to use. Why would they do that??? Of course, the first slice into the fresh dough, I cut off my finger tip. I still say they were wrong for telling me not to use that knife!I went to the ER and got it sown back on. This was about 20 years ago.Last night, while making home made croutons, I was using our new bread knife (do you hear the back ground music building?). Guess what I did! Yup. I cut that darned graft almost off again. I ran it under cold water, packed it with cayenne, rinsed it with Tonic, and (get this) Super Glued it in place. Let's face it, I can't afford ER bills, and this method has worked for me in the past.Just thought I'd share a little humour this Wednesday (Wotan's Day). Guest guest
Hope you have good healing on that! I understand super glue or an equivalent is being used in a lot of ER's these days. I've used it for nails that have torn near the ends. Works. I think the real answer though is for you to use chain mail gloves when you get around something sharp! Guest guest
Yeah, if I did that, I would hit everything except myself and the nail. I always did like screws though and rarely ever use a hammer for hitting nails. Guest guest
I prefer screws for the same reason. a good pliers help hold the screw. Or one of those nifty attachable guides. Guest guest
Yeah, comfrey. The blessed comfrey! It was Dr C's formula of powdered comfrey, wheat germ oil and honey. I hit my finger so hard it popped the nail right out of the bed, off the cuticle. Pow! And cut the bottom of the finger 2/3 of the way through from the crunch. When I got the bleeding stopped, and I quit cussing, I wrapped it up with that formula. I used VetWrap - the animal wrap that is elastic and sticks to itself, but nothing else. I love that stuff. I had to keep it wrapped for months before the nail grew out - a friend who is a nurse swore I would loose the nail, but I didn't. Because of the honey, there was no pain after the first hour. Also I massaaged my whole hand and arm towards my heart to get rid of swelling and promote fresh blood to the area. I could not hold the hammer with both hands. I was trying to pound a pin into the hydraulic arms of a tractor to hook up a diac. I was in an awfully twisted position, and got clumsy. But it is healed now.
