Subject: Any restless leg syndrome natural remedy?

Hello,

A friend of mine has this problem. I recommended him to take calcium/magnesium

and immediately he was fine for a while. However, the problem suddenly returned.

Any suggestion?

Put a bar of soap under the sheet near his feet. Seriously! I know several

people who say it helps. Nobody knows why, and it doesn't make any sense, but

try it. It's cheap. And if it doesn't work you can always take a bath with it.

My mother uses Ivory, and it has eliminated her RLS. I'm not sure if it matters

what kind of soap. Google it - you'll find info about it. Let us know if it

works.

but be careful about taking potassium supplements. It doesn't take all

that much of it to really screw your body up.

a good way to get extra potassium in the body, besides the potassium

iodide and potassium iodate pills, is to just eat bananas and oranges.

There might be other foods that are high in potassium, but I am not

aware of them without doing a search for them.

I also have Restless Leg Syndrome or RLS. I've been told to take horse

chestnut and butcher's broom, which improve overall venous circulation,

and Ginkgo biloba, which improves arterial and capillary circulation.

I am currently taking horse chestnut and have had no help there. I will

slowly add the other two alternative meds and see where that gets me.

Sorry, I forgot to type in the amounts of the meds I was told to try.

Here they are, below.

I was told that daily doses equivalent to 4 to 6 g of Ginkgo leaf (80 to

120 mg of standardized 50:1 extract), 1.6 g of butcher's broom root, and

2.4 g of horse chestnut seed work well for many patients. Yeah, the doc

wrote everything out for me. He hasn't been wrong yet, except when he

went with the prescription med junk!

Interesting and I'll pass this info, but I doubt this person will do it.

Yes, potassium is abundant in vegetables and fruits: potato, tomato,

grapefruit, etc.

I'll take note of the herbs that you mention.

Thanks,

He apparently is not getting enough of those minerals in his diet. He either

needs to continue with the suppliments or eat more veggies that contain

them.

I have been told from very reliable in the know person that rls is almost

100% a magnesium deficiency. It has helped me a lot. Also it's been my

personal experience that a lot of carbs and sugar will cause the rls.

I also learned about a homeopathic remedy called Restful Legs by Hyland that

really works well. Can't say enough good about it. As a plus, it also always

helps with insomnia. It's just a little white pill that dissolves in your

mouth, don't even need water. I keep them under my pillow for when I need

them.

Why not?

It would cost only 50 cents to try it!

Just because he doesn't believe in certain kind of things. If he asks me

about natural ways is because the doctor doesn't know how to solve his

problems, but he is much more inclined to take drugs.

Well, I ordered one bottle of Restful Legs. Will let the group know how

it works, if indeed I end up using it. Another posting shortly about why

I may not use this.

I put a bar of Irish Spring bath soap under my bed sheet last night. I

went to bed with nails being hammered through my toes and left foot.

Within 15 minutes or so, I felt no pain in any toe or the left foot. I

so far have had no pain down there since I woke up. I am continuing with

my mostly ineffective Gabapenten and will for awhile.

I can only hope this continues, as I can take the pain by day, but not

when I am trying to sleep.

Now, I would wonder if any type of soap bar could be used. Thinking here

of lye based home made soaps. Yes, I'm thinking of making my own soaps.

Got literally thousands of acres of white oak trees around me. So the

ashes would be easy to come by, from the wood stove. course, I figure

that lye based soaps, would eat my bottom sheet up eventually, unless it

was a very mild solution of lye.

Thanks

Bill first of all, the lye made with wood ash is very variable in strength.

If you want to make soap, it might be bestt o simply buy some lye at the

hardware store.

Secondly, ALL soap is made with lye. ALL. Without lye there is no soap. The

reason it does not eat our sheets is that it saponifies, blends with the

oils in the soap. As it cures, the oils and lye chemically grow together

and there is NO lye and NO oil in the finished product. Generally it needs

to sit for 6 to 8 weeks to cure the lye and oils.

If you make soap, please wear protective eye wear, gloves, rubber apron. It

can be a disaster if you don't do it right. Read up on how to do it. Follow

directions. Lye burns can eat right into your skin very quickly.

Have fun doing it!

Good someone who is really making soap, I hate those recipes for soap that start out with

take soap grate it up.....

Add fragrance

Add borax

Add filler

I need a recipe that starts at

Ashes and goes on from there. Please let us know your recipe ands how well it works.

I actually saw this in an upscale, mainstream supermarket in my area. It's called Central Market and there are about four of them in the greater Seattle area.

You might check local supplement stores.

I thought the Bar soap thing was for leg cramps, so I am so cornfusded now!

Also I was laboring under the 'delusion'[?] that RLS is caused by sitting too much, wouldn't the 'cure' be to get exercise.

Swanson Vitamins at: www.swansonvitamins.com and search for Restful Legs.

So far, the soap bar under the sheet, is doing the trick when I sleep.

I'm feeling something down in my toes now, but when I am awake, I rarely

care what is happening down there. I just hate it when it happens just

before sleep or wakes me up. As my symptoms last right at 5 hours, when

they hit me.

RLS is the blood vessels expanding and contracting normally. Mine is

caused by my spinal problems, according to several doctors.

Most RLS, normally happens when people are diabetics, from what I was

told, but there are exceptions. Seems no one can predict when RLS will

happen. Even people with no appendage down there, can still have RLS. I

think it is called, " Phantom Pains " . According to the doc, this is

exactly what I have, but with everything still attached.

BTW, according to my doctor as well. he said I might have had this most

of my life, but it is slowly getting worse. As when I was younger, I

just had to move my legs. Started when I was a kid. Got me in a lot of

trouble in school as a result. Didn't get up and move around, but swung

my feet wildly at times and always moved them around. Maybe this was why

I took up walking miles and miles and miles, as well as bicycling.
