Question on Tort

Since we have been doing the tort exercises on 's neck given to us

by Dr Persing's PT, he is tollerating tummy time much better! He even propelled

himself forward (off my hands) today for the first time! We are so excited

about

this. All this time I was thinking he didn't like tummy time because he has a

75% head on a 25% body. is 8.5 months and I've been concerned that

he has no interest in positions other than sitting and playing with his toys.

He

doesn't seem to be interested in lundging forward or attempting to " swim "

on his tummy. Maybe now he will have more interest.

My question is should we work with a separate PT or just with the people

at CT when we go for adjustments on his DOC band? Sounds like some

of the people here also have separate PT's working with their children.

Thanks,

We went to PT in addition to the DOC band adjustments. His

therapist was Karmel-Ross and she also did his band.

I would say get as much PT as you can!

I'd ask the doctor on that one. I think it depends on

the degree of torticollis. I've been doing exercises

with my daughter for about one month now at least

three times a day and notice a big difference.

I thought a PT is the one who does the DOC band. I was wondering if I should

take to see another PT in addition to the DOC band PT. It sounded like

some people in this group were going to both.

Hi ann,

The people at CT are also orthotists. Why don't you ask Charlotte

if she thinks you should take to a PT? That's what I would do.

Take care,

Does get PT while he is getting his band adjusted? Dane

didn't. That is why he went to PT sessions in addition to the

adjustments.

ann,

An orthotist is a specialist of Orthopedic braces and supports. And a

physical therapist is a specialist in physical therapy. Like if a

person was in a hospital bed for a very long time, they would need to

see a PT to help them walk again. Do you know what I mean?

I'm dreading Wednesday to be honest! Like your son, too is

very sensitive. :( I'll let you know how we do.

Many people do not see PTs to get their helmets. My daughter got her helmet

from an orthotist.

This was the case with us. We went to CT for the orthotic (DOC band) and went to a physical therapist to work on the tight neck muscle (torticollis). I think in 's case, she had THE tort guru Karmel Ross doing both, but KKR is highly trained with tort and is a pt, and she must have gotten some training to the do the orthosis for the helmet since she sees so many tort children that need a helmet as well (?). I think for the majority of tort and plagio cases, there is a pt to deal with the tort and also an orthotic professional or technician to deal with the helmet.
