Guest guest
hello all I have been unable to chat recently as I was infected by the Klez virus - fortunately my husband sucessfully repaired damage caused to our computer files. Anyway I have really missed joining the latest discussions. i have really exciting news, Chloe now has her helmet and has been wearing it for the last week. The Orthotist recommended that we gradullay build up the hours she spends in the band until she gets used to it. I am happy to report that everything is going well and Chloe has slept with the band on a couple of ocassions. However, I have noticed that the helmet is pushing a lot on her forehead. When I take it off this is where the most redness is found. I know it should be exerting pressure but it seems to be pressing quite hard there. This could be compounded by the fact that she likes to sleep on her tummy (despite my persistant efforts to discourage this). I have a followup visit at the clinic on Friday but was wondering if it is normal to have quite a lot of redness across the forehead. Also I was told that Chloe should eventually wear the helmet for at least 20 hours. What do other people aim for ? and did you gradually work up to this or start straight away? cheers Beth Chloe 7mos Sydney Aust
Guest guest
Beth, So sorry to hear about the virus - yuck! Congrats on getting the helmet and for the good adjustment. Sounds like Chloe is doing well. Make sure you address your concerns with the ortho about the redness and pressure at the front. It is possible that he/she could shave it some there to relieve that. I'm surprised your ortho said 20 hours. I think the norm is 23 hours a day and that is what we did. We had a passive helmet and wore hers 23 hours a day starting on day 2. Best wishes and keep us posted. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Beth, Chloe seems to be tolerating the band quite well! As for the redness, as long as it is fading within an hour, she should be ok. You might want to address this with the orthotist, just to be sure its not a fitting problem- it never hurts to ask! For the DOC band, the recommendation is 23 hours a day, with 1 hour off. For us, we were told to start straight away with this, and just take it off in the first 3 days every 3 hours to wipe away the sweat. He really had no problem with it from day one. I have heard others that did have problems slip in on after they fell asleep with good results! Good luck! ' Mom
Guest guest
Thanks Marci Yep the ortho shaved some off to relieve pressure so it should be ok. I think I will aim for 23hrs the more she wears it the better. cheers Beth > Beth, > > So sorry to hear about the virus - yuck! > > Congrats on getting the helmet and for the good adjustment. Guest guest
Beth, Glad to hear that the adjustment helped! You're right - the more she wears it the better the chances of correction occurring! Marci (mom to ) Oklahoma
