Guest guest
Hi Kate, From what I understand in a passive helmet it helps the head to grow rounder. It sits on the head and the head eventually will grow into nhe shape of the helmet = round. In an active band it actually redirects the growth of the head using gentle pressure. I hope this helps! > I've seen mention about passive helmets and active helmets... what's the > difference? > > Kate
Guest guest
Kate: gave you a great description! DOCbands & STARbands are both active. Locally made helmets are mostly passive style. Guest guest
, An active band redirects the growth of the head through gentle pressure not felt by the baby. A passive helmet relys totally on growth. It sits on the baby's head and eventually the head grows into the shape of the helmet, round. Passive helmets do work, they just take longer to work. They also work better for young infants as head growth slows down significantly at 6 months of age. If you have a choice of using an active band or a passive helmet, I think you should go with the active band. > Just wondering if anyone here has used a Passive type helmet for a > baby ~6mo. or older and whether you got good correction with it. Guest guest
Hi , I see that already replied with the difference between the types of helmets, so I won't repeat it! LOL I too would say to go with an active band on an older baby. My son got his STARband at 7 months, and did not have a heck of a lot of growth while banded. He was in his active band for 21 weeks, and could have gone longer, but I was ready for him to graduate!!!! Good luck with your decision. > Just wondering if anyone here has used a Passive type helmet for a > baby ~6mo. or older and whether you got good correction with it. Guest guest
-My son was 4 days shy of 6 months when we started our passive band. We had great correction and we are very happy. He wore it for 3 1/2 months. Just like a lot of mom's on here some days I wish there was more correction, but my family and my husband think its great (most of the time I agree with them too!) He wore it for almost 3 1/2 months. I know not everyone is happy with a passive one, but it worked great for us. I almost went with an active one first, but we decided to try the local univeristy passive helmet first and then if after a few months we saw nothing we would seek alternative routes. I have a picture of my son after wearing it for one month in the before and after section under Drew. I don't have his final graduation posted, i haven't put them on my computer to post them on here yet. -- In Plagiocephaly , " " <andileigh@h...> wrote: > Just wondering if anyone here has used a Passive type helmet for a > baby ~6mo. or older and whether you got good correction with it.
