Passive Vs. Active

Hi Kate -

I read 's post and she has it just right. The passive helmet does not

apply direct active pressure anywhere. The inside of the helmet is made to

resemble a more ideal head shape. As the head grows it fills into the helmet

being " held " in some places and being allowed to grow in others. This leads

to the head molding into the more ideal head shape. The band is similar

except it actually applies very slight pressure to the parts of the head

thereby encouraging the flat spots to grow.

Hope this helps.

I might not be the most encouraging person...but my son was fitted for a helmet at 7 mo. He's had it for two months and I honestly don't see any difference. At the time, I didn't know anything about Passive or Active. If I had, I would have shelled out the money for an active but that's just me. I meet with the cranial plastic surgeon on April 19th so I will see what he thinks of Ian's progress then. Maybe something is happening...I just don't see it. I just feel like at this rate, he'll be in it forever and it's already getting so hot and I feel bad for him. Anyway, I know others have had great correction so I'm sure you'll hear from them. Oh, also my son has gained 3 lbs. in the two months since he's gotten the helmet, he just must not have grown in the head =)

Good luck whatever you decide,

Passive vs. Active

Just wondering if anyone here has used a Passive type helmet for ababy ~6mo. or older and whether you got good correction with it. Ourped. plastic surgeon has recommended a passive helmet for Connor. We're not sure which helmet we'll be getting yet, but I'm wondering ifan active one would be more beneficial. I don't know alot on thetopic. Thanks.Connor (10/15/03 - tort/plagio)St. Louis, MOFor more plagio info
