Barbara,

Sorry I can't help much with the appeals process- but wanted to say that we

also live near Miami and went to the CT in Kendall- they are fantastic! Have

you been able to find a pt to deal with Sofia's tort? I had a hard time with

this- and we ended up at Baptist Hospital Outpatient- and were extremely

pleased with our pt. We could be neighbors!

Hi ,

Nice to hear from a neighbor. Yes, we went to CT in Kendall and were

very happy with our consultation. They are very nice! Thursday is

the big day to be casted. I'm trying not to think about it because

I'm gonna make myself crazy. I've gotten a lot of good advise from

this site on how to prepare.

Sofia has been in PT for 2 months now at Memorial West. She has

gotten better but still favors her right side. We also do excercises

with her at home.

Is still attending PT? Is he still in his band?

Barbara,

Yes, it sounds like you have a denial and should begin the appeals process.

Check your policy book for specific appeals instructions or call the

insurance co and ask them to send something to you about appeals procedures.

There are usually time frames to follow.

Best of luck with that - do you have a letter of medical necessity?

Barbara,

I don't think I've heard of Memorial West- where is that? was in pt

from 3 months to approx. 9 months, and we still try to maintain righting

exercises and somtimes stretch him- although rare- he will be 1 1/2 years old

next month, and he wore his DOC band from ages 5-8 months. We saw great

correction- I would guess approx. 95% on the head shape- and the ear

misalignment and facial asymmetry are no longer issues. Ari, Cari and Fatima

@ CT are excellent- they are very caring and always ready to squeeze us in

after pt since it was right down the street from Baptist. ' tort was

considered severe, and he is fully resolved (I hate saying that, I feel I

might jinx it!)- he is very midline these days (as opposed to the early days

when he was ear to shoulder!). It was a long road, but I am so thankful that

I had this Board- without their experience I may have taken the Docs advice

and waited it out- and also the tort board

(www.torticolliskids )- its was very comforting to see

children like mine and see in pics that with hard work they can beat tort.

Good luck to you and I am sure you will give Ari and Cari rave reviews- they

are the best! Please email me if I can help you out in anyway!

Barbara,

You can call the Outpatient Pt for Baptist at 305-279-5188, and ask for

starters if they accept your insurance (if not, you can still pay out of

pocket- you could still go to Miami Childrens Outpatient PT- but this is in

Perrine off US1- not as close to CT)- you will need a new script from your

ped wherever you decide to go. We worked with Patty Vargas (loved her) and I

think also Ileanna is very good with tort. Let me know if you need more

info!

By the way, with your hard work Sofia will be just fine ;) I can remember those days of worry and I'm glad to say that there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Hi ,

Memorial West is in Pembroke Pines (next to the mall).

Baptist Hospital sounds like it would be ideal if I could switch her

therapy to them instead of M.W. (since we'll be going to CT). Do you

know how I could do this? Would my ped. have to write another

prescription to Baptist?

Thank you for the tort board info. Sofia just turned 5 months on the

23rd so we are praying that we can get good results.

Thanks....
