My sons will be 9 months next week and they are not crawling either. We are seeing a new pediatrician next week and I have a lot of questions for her concerning their development in regards to positional plagiocephaly and torticollis. Winn likes to sit up, where just refuses to sit up even when he is in my lap. Although over the last two days he has begun to sit up and grab items while in his swing. Both their motor skills seem fine and well developed for 8 month olds. rolls around and also lays on his back and uses his feet to push off and bumps around. Winn does the same thing, but is not as mobile as .

Hi Bonnie...thanks for the reply. isn't sitting up yet, either. She just seems to want to scoot back down all the time. I will definitely ask about this.

Kerri,

It's true that tort can affect crawling and other milestone development,

although as you've heard here from other moms, quite normal for kids without

tort to crawl at a later age as well. Even kids with tort don't always have

delays, as my son did not. But we did try to encourage him to crawl and sit

up because I had heard of these delays, so I don't know if my helping him

(putting him in the crawling position, extending legs and arms

intermittently) to figure it out helped, or it just came naturally. Since

tort is a factor, I would keep an eye on it and have your child reach for

things with both hands, but make sure the tort side is used. I feel this

helps stretch the muscle and with crawling, so many upper body muscles are

used so this can only enhance the treatment of tort. Good luck and don't

worry- soon you'll be wishing your child wasn't so fast in getting away from

you :)

Kerri, ALL babies are DIFFERENT. Crawling at 7 months would be early, in my opinion. My firt child, , was sitting up very well by 6 months, but didn't crawl until nearly 10 months. She walked just after her 1st birthday. My twins just turned 8 months, and they are just starting to show signs of being able to sit up, but Sam has been crawling for several weeks already. I called my pediatrician a few weeks ago because I was concerned that Sam and Sara were not sitting yet, and they told me it was normal for kids not to sit up all the way to 9 months. If you are worried about not crawling, then calling you ped could set your mind at ease.

Something that really helped my learn to crawl was placing her on all fours on an incline, supporting her feet, and placing an enticing object just out of her reach. She really learned to push off and reach for the object. In just a short time she was crawling on her own.

Can Plagio/Tort affect crawling?

My daughter will be 7 months old at the end of this month. She doesn't crawl yet. I was doing some reading about how head and neck strength are keys to learning how. That got me wondering if the problems with her head and neck are delaying her learning to crawl.Do any of you have late crawlers? Any doctors ever mention this possibility as a "side effect"?Thanks, Kerri ('s Mommy, Chicago) For more plagio info

This is definitely not late...I think 10 months is even normal to start crawling...my son is almost 9 months and doesn't really crawl yet (he just started the combat crawl) and his ped said he isn't concerned at all.
