Guest guest
Barbara, You've already gotten a ton of great advice for the casting, so I hope one of those comfort items works, but don't be surprised if nothing does, but it is literally over in 10 minutes and my son was all smiles immediately after they took of the cast. CT will give you a list of instructions, and an important one (which hubby failed to mention to me at the time), is to wipe away the sweat after every 3 hours the first few days as the head is adjusting to the new temp. I didn't do this the first day and he developed a heat rash But any type of rash, cortaid was recommended. Good luck and keep us posted! I don't think she even did a double-take when she first saw the headbands on Sam and Sara. I just told her that they were to fix their heads and she said " ok " . All she really cared about was that she always got to go play with friends when I took the babies to their appointments. When I did bring her along, I made sure I had something special for her. I think she sometimes had a hard time with all the time and attention focused on the babies during the time they were in the bands, but all in all, she did great. Guest guest
Hi Good luck for your casting appointment. Well take along a drink of milk or juice. I just kept talking to Dylan at his casting which hes had two! He did really cry but it was all over within 10 minutes and i gave him his bottle and once he was having a bath he was ok. Just lots of love and hugs afterwards and they soon forget. Dylan was fine as well with the DOCband. He had the usually pink spots and had to have some adjustments and they he was fine i could not believe how well he adjusted and he has wore it for 23 hours 7 days a week fine. Best wishes and let us know how you get on. Guest guest
Barbara, You asked some really good questions. The casting process is not particularly fun, but it is short and painless for the baby. Take someone with you to help and also take some diversion toys. Toys that make music or noise are best. You might also take a bottle or paci as well as a favorite stuffed toy or blankie. Anything familiar or comforting will help. If you are going to CT you might want to take your own soap or shampoo and maybe a towel. Not all clinics have a place to bath children, but I believe CT clinics all do. Best of luck and let us know how it goes. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Barbara, My sons have been in their DOC Bands for 4 weeks. They will be 9 months next week. I will tell you that the advice from this group was wonderful. I will pass on my experience to you, as you may find it helpful. We went to CT Atlanta. did both castings. My mom came with me, which I was grateful for. 's casting was first. I held the little guy and hugged and kissed him before starting. We layed him down on his back and put this stocking over his face. cut out a place for the nose and the mouth. I put in his pacifier and he was fine for the front casting. My mom held his shoulders and arms. I held his feet and legs. The back casting is what he didn't like. He cried and wiggled and moved all around. Beverly came in to help hold his hips. just doesn't ilke to sit up, so he kept trying to jerk backwards. I was very proud of him. He did wonderful, better than I did. I had brought toys, favorite blanket, etc. it seemed to calm him. didn't like the back casting, so we redid it. That was the hardest part, but necessary. Better to redue then than later. After we were done, I picked him up and held him so tight. He was mad. But after a few minutes he was calm as could be, like nothing happened. Beverly had told me not to bring towels, shampoo, etc. unless I wanted to. I bathed immediately. CT Atlanta had baby shampoo, towels, q-tips, lotion, portable bath tub, etc. Winn was next...my Mom held his shoulders and arms and Beverly held his feet and legs, since I was bathing . Winn fell asleep during the front casting. They sat him up to do the back casting. Winn slept through that too. The only time he whimpered was when they took off the casting mold. I bathed him and he was fine. I was equally as proud of him. And grateful that he handled it so well as I was tending to . I was advised to wear/bring old clothes. I chose to wear them, less to carry, as you will be covered with plaster. I had it in hair, my nose, my ears, etc. after all was said and done. I looked in the mirror and chuckled, I was covered with plaster. I was definitely relieved that it was over. We arrived at CT at 3:00 p.m. and departed at 6:10 p.m. We spent about 15 minutes on paperwork. Then did her evaluation. The casting process took 25 minutes for , I think. The casting process for Winn took, I think 15 minutes. On the advice of this group, I left my 2.5 year old with her Daddy at home. Very valuable advice. Hope this helps you. Good luck.
